Phnom Sampeau, Battambang
Categories: Wildlife Areas, Nature & Parks
The killing caves of Phnom Sampeau give a grim insight into the atrocities committed by one of history's most brutal regimes, the Khmer Rouge. Enter the temple built in the complex of caverns to begin the chilling tour. The cool breeze blowing through the caves, the golden reclining Buddha statue, and the cages containing victims' bones create a haunting atmosphere. Outside, see a mannequin display depicting the brutal and creative ways the government used to torture people, a harrowing finish to the cave experience. Temple was very beautiful. Lots of drawings on the walls. Good condition. Lots of history. a motor cycle took us to the top. It's not enough time. Wanted to be watching the bats for 5:30 seating.
The paintings are interesting, but I mostly enjoyed watching local children playing games and hanging out in the temple precincts. I got some very nice photos here.
