Phnom Sampeau, Battambang

(3.7/5 based on 240+ reviews on the web)
The killing caves of Phnom Sampeau give a grim insight into the atrocities committed by one of history's most brutal regimes, the Khmer Rouge. Enter the temple built in the complex of caverns to begin the chilling tour. The cool breeze blowing through the caves, the golden reclining Buddha statue, and the cages containing victims' bones create a haunting atmosphere. Outside, see a mannequin display depicting the brutal and creative ways the government used to torture people, a harrowing finish to the cave experience. Work out when and for how long to visit Phnom Sampeau and other Battambang attractions using our handy Battambang trip itinerary planner.

  • Interesting point of view from the top of the Hill you can climb on foot or by motorbike or car to rent on-site. Very impressive also to see this shrine which is the result of what happened during the dark years of Cambodia.
