Phnom Sampeau, Battambang

(3.7/5 based on 240+ reviews on the web)
The killing caves of Phnom Sampeau give a grim insight into the atrocities committed by one of history's most brutal regimes, the Khmer Rouge. Enter the temple built in the complex of caverns to begin the chilling tour. The cool breeze blowing through the caves, the golden reclining Buddha statue, and the cages containing victims' bones create a haunting atmosphere. Outside, see a mannequin display depicting the brutal and creative ways the government used to torture people, a harrowing finish to the cave experience. Work out when and for how long to visit Phnom Sampeau and other Battambang attractions using our handy Battambang trip itinerary planner.

  • $2 admission and you can come up with your own bike (we did by asking at the entrance) or by scooter. Temple is not a must in my opinion but nice view from the top.

  • It's the Phnom Sampov. Mounted pretty rough, with possibility of being towed by car or bike for a few $. great view of Battambag and the country... many Buddhist buildings remarkable caves (cellars killing) with glass memorial containing bones of victims (precipitate from the top of the cave) + bats coming out (large), number late in the day (bat cave) (attention, well be there a little before sunset, which falls quite brutally)
