Create an itinerary including Aladzha Monastery
Aladzha Monastery is naturally carved from a vertical karst cliff surrounded by trees and bushes. The complex includes monks' cells, a refectory, kitchen, small cemetery church, crypt, and farm. Enter the chapel on the second level to explore partially ruined medieval frescoes from the 14th century. See the fragments of five monks' figures and the main mural depicting Jesus on a throne surrounded by flying angels. The monastery owes its name to these colorful murals, which are now almost destroyed. The Persian-Arabic word aladzha means motley. • Interesting place. It takes around 30-45 minutes to visit the place and the museum. There is many interesting facts about cave churches and the beginning of the archeology in Bulgaria.
  • Wonderful park with wonderful museum. Very good Ambiente and very interesting for young and old people. 10/10
  • We got there just before closing... visited 1st the museum (really nice), then the monastery and the catacombs (hidden in the forest, to the left of the entrance). Very interesting human-work... unique to what we've seen so far!
  • Waste of money and waste of time. For 3 of us we paid 195 levy, might aswell put your money in the rubbish bin. Tour agency just rip you off for this trip. Very unhappy, not recommend at all. And be careful if some of your family can't walk properly because you won't be able to take that tour but tour agency said nothing, only interested in money. One of our family member can only walk with retired walker support and of course she can't walk to the monastery because its lot of steps and hills, what did we pay for???JUST A BIG RIP OFF AND WASTE MONEY!!!!
  • Interesting monastery carved in the cliff with carefully landscaped gardens, catacombs and small history museum. The entrance fee is 5 leva for adults. Easy and safe to reach for everyone, no need to hike to get to it.
