Nessebar

4.1
Ruins · Water & Amusement Parks · Nightlife
Between the ruggedly beautiful Balkan Mountains and shores of the Black Sea lies the World Heritage Site, Nessebar. Located on a rocky peninsula, this settlement was founded 3,000 years ago and contains ancient city remains dating back to the Hellenistic period. Witness artistic and cultural works from Thracian times to modern day. View the acropolis, a temple of Apollo, a fortified Thracian wall, and other monuments. See medieval architecture at the Stara Mitropolia Basilica and the area's fortress, and move on to the 19th-century wooden homes. Once you've discovered the region's history, enjoy the walks along the seaside, water sports, and sunbathing. With our custom trip planner, Bulgaria vacations can be built around trips to Nessebar and other destinations in Bulgaria.

Where to stay in Nessebar

Though much of the accommodations in the immediate region are concentrated in larger, nearby seaside cities, Nessebar itself features some affordable options. The city lacks many international chains, but this means you can find affordable places to stay more or less anywhere in town. Grab a spot in one of the many locally run guesthouses scattered around the modern part of the city (just inland from the historical peninsula section but within easy walking distance). To be even closer to the World Heritage Site of the ancient city, consider staying in a guesthouse or bed and breakfast out on the peninsula right among the historical buildings.
