Nessebar, Sunny Beach

4.5
#1 of 532 in Things to do in Bulgaria
Historic Site Tourist Spot
Explore the rich cultural history of the region at Nessebar, a major seaside resort area on the Bulgarian coast. This "pearl of the Black Sea" is a World Heritage site and a popular destination for family tourism. Walk barefoot on the fine sand of the bay. The sea bottom dips slightly, making it fun and safe for children. Visit the ancient part of the town to see traces of the Thracian, ancient Greek, Roman, and Ottoman civilizations that occupied the area over the past 3,000 years. Add Nessebar to your Sunny Beach travel itinerary, and discover new vacation ideas by using our Sunny Beach tour planner.

Where to stay in Sunny Beach

As one of Bulgaria's most popular and extensive beachfront resort towns, Sunny Beach boasts plenty of upscale waterfront accommodations, albeit crammed into a relatively small area. The hotels tend to be interspersed along a strip within a few blocks of the beach, so whether you're choosing a big, modern hotel with an on-site pool or a smaller guesthouse, you'll have easy access to the water. Keep in mind that those right along the ocean tend to be more expensive; staying a little farther inland is a great way to cut costs.
