Vitosha Mountain, Sofia

#1 of 144 in Parks in Bulgaria
Must see · Mountain · Ski Area
Vitosha Mountain remains the country’s most visited protected area with over 3.5 million visitors every year. Within the park, Branishte Biosphere Reserve and Peat Branishte Reserve serve as one of the first Bulgarian reserves. The natural monument Duhlata represents the longest and one of the most beautiful caves in Bulgaria. Over 300 km (186 mi) of tourist trails and alleys and dozens marked tourist routes cater to adventures seekers. Ten peaks above 2,000 m (6,500 ft) high offer a backdrop, overlooking cycling and equestrian tourism routes and climbing routes for mountaineers. Multiple nature protection centers, museums, environmental centers, sports, and information alleys also sit within the park, part of the European ecological network NATURA 2000. • Few minutes driving from Sofia, one can enjoy full mountaineering benefits and great views of Sofia City.
  • Vitosha is a great destination for a moderated/easy hike at the weekend with various trails and attractions. Can be a good choice to move out and enjoy the nature if you are near to the capital, but for sane reason on weekends and on national holidays can be crowded. European long distance walking trail E4, also known as the 5 mountains trail starts at Dragalevtsi and crosses Vitosha national park, included the Black peak in the first days.
  • Enjoy this panoramic view over the city of Sofia on our way to Boyana Waterfalls! Small video is attached 😍!
  • Close to town virgin beauty ; Great place for recreation ;
  • Nice mountain park near Sofia.
