Sveta Petka Samardjiyska, Sofia

Categories: Churches, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
3.4/5 based on 140+ reviews on the web
The miniature Orthodox church Sveta Petka Samardjiyska reflects a humble style due to the Ottoman rule that there could be no churches taller than houses. The largely ruined structure lies at an important public square among large modern buildings and roads. Its walls are crumbling, and the frescoes on the interior have faded a great deal. The size of the entire object is about 70 sq m (750 sq ft). Observe its old terra cotta roof tiles, reminiscent of typical village houses. Snap photos of this small religious object from the early Ottoman era surreally juxtaposed against the urban surroundings. • Before the construction of the Metro was virtually impossible to see her. Now it has a privileged location and definitely was much valued. Worth much more that is a junction between the many tourist attractions. Recommended.

  • Cute and tiny church, located in the complex of ruins of Serdika, entry is only open to orodossi.

  • Nice to see from the outside but inside I found only a tiny shop on and the special area was shrouded in mystery, too dark to be able to distinguish anything. In short: the outside is more interesting than the inside. Church is easy to find if you get off the subway in Serdica.
