Sveta Petka Samardjiyska, Sofia

(4.1/5 based on 190+ reviews on the web)
The miniature Orthodox church Sveta Petka Samardjiyska reflects a humble style due to the Ottoman rule that there could be no churches taller than houses. The largely ruined structure lies at an important public square among large modern buildings and roads. Its walls are crumbling, and the frescoes on the interior have faded a great deal. The size of the entire object is about 70 sq m (750 sq ft). Observe its old terra cotta roof tiles, reminiscent of typical village houses. Snap photos of this small religious object from the early Ottoman era surreally juxtaposed against the urban surroundings. • This church (or is it a chapel?) is located in the heart of the city. Us to urgently send a random passer-by. Saying something about water. But no matter how many times we did not fit/were always doors closed, blocked by a chain.

  • Small Byzantine Chapel Afierwmeno stin AG.Paraskevi. Located in the city centre I was lucky as it was open and I visited. will impress you the inside of space although it is thrifty in charms. Consists of 2 floors. Episkeimoi both.

  • This church with loads of history has been part of a controversy in respect of being the resting place of Vasil Levski. The stories are actually more interesting than the building itself.  more »

  • Nice small church. It's very old and it is definitely a great view to see how the modern buildings merge with ancient ones. Definitely take the time to see it and the ruins of ancient Serdica.
  • It's well worth walking down amongst the Roman ruins and around the old church, with modern buildings rising around you.
  • Such a beautiful Church. A must see place in Sofia
  • From the 14th century with unique architecture
  • Another historic church that has been preserved. The church and the nearby archeological sites make up for a nice visit.
