(4.1/5 based on 100 reviews on the web)
Reputed to be the largest of its kind in the Balkans, National Museum of Natural History holds a substantial collection of preserved animals, minerals, and scientific information. The collection consists of over 400 mammals, 1,200 bird species, and hundreds of thousands of invertebrates. In addition, it preserves samples of nearly one-quarter of all known mineral species. • Great Museum in the heart of the city. Many of the exhibits. Shocking a huge Vulture who balsamwthike with open wings and reaching the 1.5 metre each!!!! Worth a visit

  • It smells slightly musty, but the price (5 Lev of adult - 2 Lev student) and the content of the Museum make it back away :) for children recommended

  • Lots of stuffed animals, are 4 floors of the Museum! I haven't read anywhere that animals have died of natural causes (indeed there are 3-4 heads that I come from hunting trophies) but I trust that it is so. As students we paid 2 head lever (1 euro!) so I really recommend it!

  • I happened to visit on a very quiet day and so ended up being the only one there (minus the staff). It was an interesting experience, walking around and being alone with all of the animals. They have a good variety and I'd definitely recommend going if you have children with you. I enjoyed it but wouldn't say that it's a must-do unless you have an extra few hours to kill.
  • I almost spent my childhood there :) besides the games with friends, of course. I really loved this museum with it's rich mineral, insects, birds and more collections. But now is a bit sad place, lots of parts of the exhibits are gone, some of the showcases are empty or look dusty and forgotten. Definitely needs new exhibits, renovation and modernisation. I rate it high because of my love and nostalgia for the good times of this place. Yet it deserves to be visited at least for the minerals and exceptional fossils.
  • Some interesting items, unfortunately it feels like the museum hasn't been updated in 20+ years. It's a shame, really, as there are some cool things inside. Worth a 20 min peek.
  • This has been the best exhibition of minerals and gemstone I've seen. I study Gemology in Wales and I really enjoyed visiting this museum. I recommend it!
  • While many of the other museums were shut over the Christmas period, this was not. It is a small place, with a prominent selection of old school taxidermic pieces, exhibited over 3 floors. Some of the exhibits were alarmingly odorous. I was overwhelmed by how helpful and friendly the staff were.
