3.5/5 based on 100+ reviews on the web
In the former royal palace of Bulgaria, National Art Gallery features a striking interior that serves as artwork itself in addition to the 50,000 objects it displays. Built in 1882, this chateauesque building is filled with lavish quarters, sparkling white ballrooms, and neo-Baroque adornments. A walk through the hallways reveals stone fireplaces and blood-red furniture. Take in the country's largest collection of medieval paintings, National Revival art, thousands of prominent icons, and numerous other paintings and sculptures. Look for Vladimir Dimitrov's famous portrait of a lady harvester. • Would normal descriptions, history paintings, most of them not. Women sitting in Shali at the corners, watching visitors pump discouragement and want to quickly leave. Talented canvases are lost without a decent exposure. Just razvešat′ on the walls without worrying about coverage, informative and suitably equipping atmosphere is negligible.

  • This is a great art gallery in Sofia you must visit. I did enjoy every minute here. There are lots of pictures presenting daily life in Bulgaria. Must visit when in Sofia.
