Art Museum
In the former royal palace of Bulgaria, National Art Gallery features a striking interior that serves as artwork itself in addition to the 50,000 objects it displays. Built in 1882, this chateauesque building is filled with lavish quarters, sparkling white ballrooms, and neo-Baroque adornments. A walk through the hallways reveals stone fireplaces and blood-red furniture. Take in the country's largest collection of medieval paintings, National Revival art, thousands of prominent icons, and numerous other paintings and sculptures. Look for Vladimir Dimitrov's famous portrait of a lady harvester.
