Pomorie Lake, Pomorie
(4.1/5 based on 90+ reviews on the web)
With an urban setting on one side and vast plains on the other, Pomorie Lake provides substantial amounts of sea salt and curative mud for the town's residents. This saline lagoon stretches over 760 hectares (1,880 acres) and connects to the Black Sea at its end point. Nearly 270 species of birds live or visit the site, including four endangered species. Here you can also encounter the Etruscan shrew, a 1.8 g (0.063 oz) mammal, the tiniest known to man. Visit the museum at the site, which explains the methods of extraction and usage of salt.
