  • Amazing spot and a beautiful view. Unfortunately only a small bit has been restored which is a shame. However that's a must do in Plovdiv.  more »

  • Only a small section remains of this massive stadium, it would have seated 30,000 people in its time. They would have raced horses/ chariots there. It's a terrible shame it was built on top of and...  more »

  • Very small part can be visited as the rest is still under the city. For that part there is almost no information available on site. It looks like they try to sell 3D cinema tickets. The building was impressive, apparently. Elevator for baby strollers not working, no sign, no apology.
  • Amazing to walk along the pedestrían zone to then find a massive man-made hole in the ground, which opens up to the stadium. Plovdiv is one of the oldest settlements in the world, hence historic buildings can easily be found anywhere in the city. However, what makes the stadium so different is, that it has been excavated internally, so that you can walk or sit inside the stadium, whilst one level up around it, the city remained untouched. It appears a bit like a stage located inside a crater.
  • I wasn't respecting it to look this good, wonderful job in bringing this piece of history back to the surface. What I found most impressive was the overlay of history: from the stadium you can see the mosque nearby which was built in the 15th century and some of the buildings dating fron the 19th century. There is no info on the history of the stadium itself on site but entrance is free. There is some kind of 3D movie you can see but I didn't bother with it
  • Lovely spot right in the middle of the city. Gorgeous area to grab a drink or just sit and people watch. Don't miss it!
  • A must-see! It is strange when individual tourists approach the Stadium and think that this the Roman theatre (which is in the Old town). The Roman stadium is part of a wonderful complex - Roman heritage, Ottoman mosque and contemporary secession and Bauhaus architecture just next to Kapana- the art district in Plovdiv.
