  • As much as I don't like to describe in detail the beauty and grandeur of this ancient and fantastic places, but still have to admit: to experience an indescribable excitement from these places are a must here. Located in the immediate vicinity of this has history of the town, "Iskar-Panega" is the first GEO-Park in Bulgaria and, as far as I know, to date only. Natural phenomena in this area make this place truly fabulous. So, within the GEO-Park unique rock Kuklite object, as well as the cave "T'mnata dupka", which is covered with legends and where traces of life of primitive people. It is said that the water, vegetation and rocks form this site, create a special natural energy, which has a therapeutic effect on the nervous system of a person. Be sure to review all the bridges across the river and along the cliffs to enjoy and absorb the magic of lukovitskoj nature and history. On site geo-Park organized by cozy seats for outdoor (gazebos), as well as entertainment even for those who like extreme sports. For example, nearby is cave Prohodna having two unique rock formation in the shape of a huge holes through which the Sun's rays penetrate into the cave and you can see blue sky. This phenomenon is called the "Eye of God" and causes a genuine thrill when you are inside the cave and look up. But about this cave needs a separate review, therefore only say that you can go down to it with mountaineering equipment:) In GEO-Park you can splavitsja on the raft down the River, and you can just enjoy nature and clean air of the place. This is one of those places in the world which captivates at first glance, breath, and step beckons, forcing to return again and again. Highly recommend to all travellers visiting Bulgaria.

  • Having rented a car from Sofia and route a hundred km of highway, we found ourselves wander for hours in the desolate countryside, without anyone knowing nothing of the Geopark, nor in Lukovit (Park Headquarters) in any of the neighbouring countries; let alone signs or Carter along the way. No response even from the telephone number of the municipality of Lukovit. Luckily from caving friends Bulgarians had had vague directions of the coordinates of the cave (Temnata Dupka) which is the major attraction of the Park, and surfing with your mobile phone we managed to reach the restaurant (great!!) from which a small path to the cave. Not applicable, map, location of geosites or otherwise. Despite this, and the many lost hours, we saw one of the most fascinating places on the planet and a landscape of immense geological value. Isn't the Verdan, but almost. For geologists, descending to the Valley along a dirt road, you will see awesome Karst geological erosion shapes cutaway, and a perfect tracery delta-fans that close the Cretaceous flysch. We recommend the trip, but be warned that you'll have to earn it and you will have no help from anyone. A doubt ... who funded the elusive Geopark? Watch that not all wise guys are in Italy!
