  • We drove to this village to have a look around and visit the church we had read about. The village has really nothing to offer except for this church - there seemed to be one cafe that was shut. We...  more »

  • This church is very unique with it's history and location. Dobarsko is the last village on this road and frankly there isn't much to do there. But it's definitely worth to go and visit the church. I.....  more »

  • This church is almost 400 years old, built on the foundations of an even older church. Incredible wall paintings which have survived for centuries. If you are in the area definitely visit this place. The guide will also provide some basic but interesting background information . The village around the church was supposedly founded by the survived Samuil warriors.
  • An authentic church of almost 4 centuries old. Beautiful murals which were recently restored. Nice garden around the church. Nereby there is nice playground for children.
  • Very nice and colourful! The guide was quite friendly and the toor was nit much cash. :)
  • This church is a lovely bijou of eastern orthodox christian art and architecture. It is dated from 1613-14 and it's very well preserved. The architectural type of the building is pseudobasilica with a central nave and two small aisles. Overall it's a tiny stone building, 8,4 by 6,5 meters, partly embedded into the ground and 5,2 meters high. The iconostasis is of a rare type - solidly built, and the original icons put on its wall are as well preserved as the murals (both from 1614). One of the factors for the good preservation of the interior art is the natural ventilating system formed in the walls, which provides a stable regular temperature above 0 degrees Celsius throughout the year, even though there has never been glass on the tiny windows. The whole decoration is very lively and enchantingly beautiful. There are some 30 women saints painted among the other mural scenes, which is a rare thing - according to the eastern orthodox canon up to seven female saints can usually be portrayed in a church. In the yard there is a legendary healing water spring. This exquisite little museum of christian art is open for visitors every day.
  • A must-see cultural heritage. 10+ century-old church with centuries-old frescoes, two of them seen as depicting Jesus in a spaceship. The frescoes were graded 5/5 by Kenneth Clark in his Civilization series for their cultural significance. Guided visits are available to educate you about the long history of this church. The springwater passing through the churchyard is said to have healing powers, so you can wash your eyes in order to gain blessings!
