Belogradchik Fortress, Belogradchik

4.8
#1 of 18 in Things to do in Vidin Province
For generations, Romans, Bulgarians, and Ottomans controlled this area from Belogradchik Fortress. The Romans constructed the fortress between the first and third centuries CE. Notice the openings for guns and the three bastions for cannons on the fortress walls. Climb to the highest point of the fortress, called the first slab, for a view of the 70 m (230 ft) high rocks on the other side of the yard. The site also features a monument dedicated to the leaders of the uprising against Ottoman rule, who were taken away through one of the fortress tunnels and beheaded. • You can't beat this show. The fortress is beautiful, but that's not all: going up you can enjoy a breathtaking view that cannot be described. Pure air, pure nature, magical experience. To do absolutely.

  • Precious spots! Very hot if you get to go in the summer. The views are spectacular. Agreed us they were riding a scenario in the fortress by which does not omit some photos. Highly recommended.

  • The scenery around is perhaps more in the same fortress. Visited during the staging of a show that should be really nice but that spoils a little visit. What more than bearable, only ruin your photos ...

  • Words cannot describe what nature has prepared for you to witness in Belogradchik. Definitely a place to put in your "to-go-to plan" while in Bulgaria. Amazing scenery, place full of legends and history - a true monument created by nature to celebrate its own beauty. Strongly recommended. Note that road from Sofia to Belogradchik is not in great shape as of April 2017, thus these 250 kilometers will take a few hours (probably up to 3hrs).
  • One of the most beautiful places in the world hands down! It is a must see!
  • Amazing views. The climb to get to the Fortress is daunting, but well worth it. Bring water; we went in July and it was hot.
  • Such unique rock formations that hqve been converted into an old fortress. So much history and geology here.
  • incredible place !!! marvelous nature - great view
