Bachkovo Monastery is home to a silver-encased icon of the Virgin allegedly painted by St. Luke. Learn about the monastery's history from the frescoes in the former refectory, and view a marble table from 1601 in the dining room. Two churches in the monastery's courtyard feature 19th-century wall paintings by the prominent Bulgarian artist Zahari Zograf. Enter the chapel to see a depiction of the Last Judgment; seek out the agitated Turks on the right and Zograf's self-portrait in the left corner. Other highlights include the 17th-century iconostasis, church plates, covers of manuscripts, and other pieces of applied art. The ossuary, a two-story stone tomb, is the only building preserved from the original monastery. To visit Bachkovo Monastery and other attractions in Bachkovo, use our Bachkovo vacation generator.

Klostret är jämte klostret i Rila en av den bulgariska kulturen och nationens viktigaste platser. Är man i trakten ska man inte missa att göra ett besök. Trots relativt många besökare andas klostergår... more »The monastery is a monastery of Rila, along with the Bulgarian culture and the nation's most important sites. Are we in the neighborhood you should not miss to pay a visit. Despite relatively many visitors breathe cloister and the little church of great peace. In addition, very beautiful. You can get to B from Asenovgrad by bus or by taxi. Those who have their own car can park right at the entrance. It is several hundred metres to go up to the monastery, so anyone who has trouble walking, can for a small fee to drive all the way to the monastery. A minus with the place is the Commerce who grew up in the surrounding area. Honey and ceramics are nothing to criticize. But novelties, brass knuckles and war toys bring to mind what Jesus did with the merchants in the temple.

Při návštěvě Plovdivu na bylo doporučeno navštívit i toto místo. Určitě je zajímavé udělat tento výlet. It sure is interesting to do this trip. Although the place is not entirely clear to which space is permitted to enter the visitor's and many of the descriptions is in Bulgarian only, but it's worth a visit. At the site there are many restaurants where you can eat quite well.

As a monastary, it is okay. It is run down and in disrepair, so not worth the drive if that is all you want to see. However, great "flea-market" style shops at the site for shopping, so great adventure then if looking for Bulgarian souvenirs.

This was an excellent trip which i can totally recommend if staying in Plovdiv. Our guide, Stoyan was one of the best guides i have had. He was friendly, very helpful and definately knew alot about Plovdiv and its history . His English was very good and explained everything in detail without boring us to death . We were picked up on time from our hotel in a comfortable minvan . Stoyan made sure we were all (6 of us) dressed correctly and even waited while of of our party then had to go back to her room to change footwear. We then set off to our first stop which was the wonderful bridges. A beautiful area with amazing views. At no time did we feel rushed to move onto the next place. Stoyan took particular care with one member of our group who had a slight problem walking helping her over the tricky rocks and steps. A word of warning this can be difficult site to visit if you have walking or balance problems. We stopped there for refreshments. The guide Stoyan gave us the option of where we would like to stop for lunch as we only wanted a light lunch we chose the first stop. We then went ti Bachkovo Monastary . Wonderful place. Again plently if time to see eveything and full explanations about the place. Our 3rd and last stop was the fortress. All 3 places were amazing and different. This trip was the highlight of our stay in plovdiv. Thank you Stoyan for looking after us so well and for sharing your knowledge. We all came away knowing a lot more about Plovdiv and Bulgaria.

I was amazed by this monastery. The thing I liked most was that there were a lot of priests and I could see them in real life. There was a relics from Georgia but I did not understand entirely but I visited Georgia before so it was interesting I will look after this. The surrounding area was also wonderful thee are a lot of restaurants with tasty food.
