Chiesa della Nativita, Arbanasi

Church · Tourist Spot
Although the uncommon Chiesa della Nativita appears to be a simple house, it actually hides a church with lavish frescoes filling nearly the entire surface of the interior walls. During the Ottoman occupation, it was forbidden to build churches that exceeded heights of houses. So, the Christian community built this monument in the 16th century featuring very modest shapes and facade. Outside, you may not differentiate it from a horse stable. But inside you'll discover a wealth of Biblical motifs, including 4,000 frescoes that depict lives of Christ, the Virgin Mary, and various saints. A visit to Chiesa della Nativita represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Arbanasi online holiday builder to plot your vacation.
