Chiesa della Nativita, Arbanasi

(4.7/5 based on 110+ reviews on the web)
Although the uncommon Chiesa della Nativita appears to be a simple house, it actually hides a church with lavish frescoes filling nearly the entire surface of the interior walls. During the Ottoman occupation, it was forbidden to build churches that exceeded heights of houses. So, the Christian community built this monument in the 16th century featuring very modest shapes and facade. Outside, you may not differentiate it from a horse stable. But inside you'll discover a wealth of Biblical motifs, including 4,000 frescoes that depict lives of Christ, the Virgin Mary, and various saints. A visit to Chiesa della Nativita represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Arbanasi family vacation planner to plot your vacation.

  • We arrived just when the Church opened to the public. Did not expect me it to be so big. There is not a hole on the ceilings and walls unpainted!.
