Capela de Santa Luzia, Vitoria

3.8
#7 of 8 in Historic Sites in Vitoria
The city’s oldest religious structure is Capela de Santa Luzia, built in the 16th century of stone, lime, and clay tiles. This simple rectangular building is a national landmark, and has played an important role in the history of the city and the entire region. You can take a free guided tour of the chapel, or drop in on your own when you visit the city’s historic Upper Town. Visitors often remark that this building seems frozen in time, having kept almost all of its features, now several centuries old, completely intact. Don’t miss a chance for a quick stop at a timeless place, unaffected by change and impervious to the modern times. Its architecture, stained glass, gems of art and crypt religiosity. Accompanied by a guide, the fights, the city's particularities, your people, your social discrimination (was a church only for whites) and the Catholic faith. Its stained-glass Windows and the wind door can lead to hours of contemplation, the central nave, vaulted and your neoclassical style are awesome. Rebound the visit the crypt, the nave and your fantastic wind door. Friendly and well-informed Guide. Covering the local tourist ride of fine deal.

The Chapel is located in a central point of the capital Victoria, the visitation at the moment isn't happening, but it is worth knowing the place even if it is just the front..

Unfortunately, I'm going to evaluate the facade of the oldest church of Victory, because on Sundays (when we visited) was closed. But indicates a good conservation.

Almost a hidden gem this is a very old chapel, apparently one of the oldest. Only small but well worth seeking out.

Historic Sanctuary. One of the first churches built in the Holy Spirit. Newly restored, is worth knowing.

Where to stay in Vitoria

The two main neighborhoods to stay in when exploring Vitoria are Praia do Canto and the area close to Parque Moscoco. Hotels dominate the selection here, with simple rooms in chain and independent lodgings, alongside luxury options. Budget-conscious travelers will find side street hostels appealing, as well as the more basic among the collection of pousadas (guesthouses) in the city. Stay closer to the airport, or the main bridges leading off the island, if you wish to get out of town on a regular basis to explore other areas of the state.
