Sao Jose Fountain, Tiradentes

(3.6/5 based on 1,200+ reviews on the web)
Dating from 1749, Sao Jose Fountain this attractive colonial fountain is all the more picturesque thanks to its pleasant wooded surroundings. With its stone cross, Portuguese coat of arms and statue of St. Joseph, the fountain bears a striking resemblance to the facade of a church. The three separate water spouts are for humans, animals and clothes washing, and the water is supplied by a slave-built aqueduct from 1 km (0.6 mi) away. The fountain is still in use today, so feel free to quench your thirst whilst you are there. • Worth visiting for the story. Huge fountain! One of the biggest I've ever seen in Brazil, can you imagine the amount of people at the time that the used and the power of the Church. Today is well abandoned.

  • The history of the fountain is interesting, but it is requiring greater care in maintenance. The area behind the same is very quiet and pleasant.

  • Worth a visit for the architecture in the form of Church and the story behind the founding of cidafe. It was recently restored. The water comes through a channel behind the stone fountain with a length of one kilometer until the spring in the Woods Mother of water which can also be visited.

  • The fountain is much more interesting if you have a guide that tell the story of the city and each site. Can you imagine everything as it was. Beautiful!

  • The story is interesting and worth a visit. For those who like, behind the Fountain there is a trail (very quiet) that will follow the aqueduct, passing through a landscape.

  • Interesting and well preserved historical building, and take lots of great pictures. There's plenty of space to park and the water seems to be clean and potable.
