Categories: Fountains, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
2.7/5 based on 1,000+ reviews on the web
Dating from 1749, Sao Jose Fountain this attractive colonial fountain is all the more picturesque thanks to its pleasant wooded surroundings. With its stone cross, Portuguese coat of arms and statue of St. Joseph, the fountain bears a striking resemblance to the facade of a church. The three separate water spouts are for humans, animals and clothes washing, and the water is supplied by a slave-built aqueduct from 1 km (0.6 mi) away. The fountain is still in use today, so feel free to quench your thirst whilst you are there.
