National Park Nature / Park
Serra dos Orgaos National Park is one of the foremost centers of trekking, mountain climbing and rock climbing in Brazil. Whether you are a novice walker or a seasoned adventurer, the park has something to offer, with extensive trails throughout the region that can take anywhere from a few hours to several days. The park covers a 110 sq km (42 sq mi) area of forested mountains rising from 145 m (476 ft) at its lowest point to 2,263 m (7,425 ft) at its highest. The area is abundant in natural springs and the unusual name--"Organ Mountains"--is believed to have come from early Portuguese settlers who thought that the rocky peaks of the mountain range resembled church organs. The most famous of these formations is the Dedo de Deus (God's Finger) rock, which resembles a left hand pointing towards the sky. It is 1,692 m (5,551 ft) high and can be seen in the background of the flag of the Rio de Janeiro state. A visit to Serra dos Orgaos National Park represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Teresopolis trip builder to plot your vacation.

  • Wonderful! Worth the walk! Nature is exuberant in every detail, the fresh air, despite the cold, it was worth it.

  • We drove through this national park on the play Rio de Janeiro to Teresopolis. We stopped and enjoyed the view and took many beautiful pictures. The view was outstanding, the parking situation at vantage points right at the top. There was also a restoration-the tried, however, we do not. Three mountains close to each other has almost iconic status. "God Finger" is known as one of the peaks-it is very vertically on the sides. There are minor streams and beautiful lakes. The Lake, where the Brazilian national football team has its training facilities, must be part of the National Park. -Bird life seemed rich. In particular, many birds of prey on the way up.
