  • The House of culture of Teresina provides to students, researchers and the community at large, a space for research, entertainment and tourist visitation. The place has a great bibliographic collection and Museum, in addition to offering courses, exhibitions and art workshops and other cultural events. The House of culture lies in the Centre of the city, in one of the oldest parts where divides the space with the Church of sorrows and the square, which takes its name from the founder of the city of Teresina, Imperial Counselor Antônio Saraiva. The House of culture was inaugurated on 12 August 1994, and your construction dates back to the years 1870, when it was family residence of João do Rego Monteiro, Baron de Gurguéia. After that the House has come to serve as barracks and infirmary. In 1913 the House was sold to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Teresina, who founded a seminary. The House also served as episcopal residence, seat of the National Department of works Against drought (DNOCS) and later the Colegio Pedro II. In the year 1986, the construction was declared by the Department of historical, artistic and Natural Heritage. The House is a beautiful classical-style building with Windows on head, several lounges, liner and floor still in original wood. Through a cooperation agreement between City Hall and the State Government, restoration works were started in the year 1993. After the Reformation the place became the House of culture of Teresina. Account with Auditorium, art space, libraries, video and art rooms, stage and internal courtyard. The House of culture has more than 7000 copies between books and journals, geological, palentólogicas and numistáticas shows, photographs, works of art, letters and cartographic maps, indigenous objects, sacred objects, furniture, porcelain and musical instruments.

  • I went to see an exhibition. I got there very little material. Blueprints badly reproduced.

  • Disappointing. Poorly preserved historic building. Need to keep investing if you lose the history of the site. The building is interesting. But there's no attraction for the tourist.
