Capital of Sun and Light

Prepare for some hot and sticky weather as you head to Teresina, a city of nearly a million people perched between the Parnaiba and Poti rivers. Named after Teresa, the wife of Emperor Pedro II of Brazil, the city was founded in 1852 to replace Oeiras as the capital of Piauí state in the tropical northeast. With average high temperatures above 30 C (86 F) year-round, Teresina holds the infamous title of the hottest city in Brazil. One highlight of the city is a well-loved water park where you can ecape the heat. With the Inspirock world travel planner, Teresina and other destinations across the globe can be made central to your personalized travel plans.

Where to stay in Teresina

Many of Teresina's larger hotels cater especially to businesspeople and are therefore concentrated around the city center. However, you can find a range of options across the Poti River in the eastern neighborhood of Jóquei, as well as several choices near the city's airport in the north. Most other neighborhoods offer one or two places to stay. Many of the city's accommodations are budget to mid-range options with decent facilities but not much atmosphere to speak of.
