Parque Ibirapuera, Sao Paulo

Home to various museums and monuments, Parque Ibirapuera is one of the city’s most important recreational and cultural areas. This green area features sprawling areas designated for picnicking, jogging, cycling, and walking. The park’s importance to the city, locals claim, is comparable to that of Central Park to the residents of New York City. One of Latin America’s largest urban parks, the site opened in 1954 to mark the 400th anniversary of the city. Many of the park’s buildings were designed by famed architect Oscar Niemeyer, while the landscaped green zones were planned by agronomist Otávio Agusto de Teixeira Mendes. The park is home to the Museum of Modern Art, Museum of Contemporary Art, and the iconic Obelisk of Sao Paolo, symbol of Brazil’s Constitutional Revolution. • We loved brasil, but there was always an under current of not feeling safe. This area however is very safe. Lots of families and tourist enjoying the park. Lots of security and police. No trouble.  more »
  • The park is beautiful with some museums. There's a lake, birds and sculptures. So even if you're there early and museums aren't open there's things to see.  more »
  • I consider this park one of the highlights of my time here. Extremely safe during the day and always a presence of police which is comforting. Next to the oca there is some absolutely incredible...  more »

  • Nice place to do exercise, two track option to run (3km, 6km). Best time to visit is early in the morning, less crowded. There's options to visit Museum and Planetarium too. Lovely place to site seeing.
  • Walking on a park is always good . Ibirapuera Park is very beautiful but it is huge and far away from the tube station. Prepare yourself for a long walk with many attractions including the Contemporary Art Museum. It is for free and there is a restaurant at the top with nice views of Sao Paulo
  • What a great park. Reminds me of Central Park in New York. But better they have dedicated bike and walking and running lanes. places to do sports or just sit around and play in the playground or lay in the shade. Beautiful vegetation beautiful trees great little nature trails as well. What a great park to have in a city like this.
  • Beautiful park. Be sure to catch the locals playing football. Great atmosphere with music. Running track. Cycling track. Makeshift gym.
  • This park was amazing and huge! There are lots of places to get snacks and drinks. You can also rent bikes to ride around the park. I was very impressed with the beauty of this park!
