Parque Estadual da Cantareira - Nucleo Pedra Grande, Sao Paulo

4.6
#1 of 8 in Nature in Sao Paulo
Located in a conservation area of the same name, Parque Estadual da Cantareira - Nucleo Pedra Grande is a mountain that reaches a peak of 1,418 m (4,652 ft). Its most distinctive feature, and the origin of the name, which means 'Great Stone,' is the large, exposed patches of smooth, bare rock. Because of the ease of access of its gentle slopes, and the large, mostly flat surface area at its peak, many sports and other outdoor activities are practiced here. Try your hand at hang-gliding, paragliding, climbing, abseiling, mountain biking, camping, hiking, tree climbing, motocross, BMX, and ballooning. Those looking for a less strenuous activity can have a go at dousing or crystal therapy (the quartz in the rock is supposed to have therapeutic qualities), stargazing, or you could simple admire the panoramic view and enjoy the quiet, interrupted only by the howler monkeys that inhabit the area. The gate here closes 1pm?! You'd have to in the worst shape ever to not be able to do this hike in an hour or two. It's 6km. Apparently it's open all days in July not just the weekend. Was in an uber. Why can't they just drive to the top. What horseshit.

An incredible natural park in the city. At the top of Pedra Grande you can see São Paulo. Beautiful trails for hiking. A lot of "Mata Atlântica" to explore.
