Museu Lasar Segall, Sao Paulo

4.3
#30 of 105 in Museums in Sao Paulo
Showcasing paintings and sculptures of a distinguished Lithuanian-born artist who made his home in Brazil in 1923, Museu Lasar Segall contains nearly every work he created during his life in this country. The museum was founded in 1967 by Segall’s wife and children, and is housed in the family’s former residence, which has been carefully conserved to protect the spirit of the artist’s creative process. You can take a free guided tour or attend a brief course in Segall’s lesser-known areas of creativity, such as engraving and photography. The building also contains a library, a small movie theater, and a coffee shop. Drop in to learn about the work of this Modernist artist who transformed Brazilian art with his revolutionary use of color and lighting. • Simply beautiful. A nice, cozy place, with an odd cultural depth. We were delighted. We will return

  • Since its inception, MAPFRE Foundation has focused its efforts on the recovery of the works on paper from those artists and movements relevant to appreciate the evolution of uses of the drawing and the painting of the last century. The selection presented in Brazil covers the period from the end of the 19th century until the mid-twentieth century, precisely the moment in which the drawing still lives its double condition. If on the one hand it is a creative medium for the final performance of other works, at the same time shows already its independence as a full art and sufficient in itself. Drawing ceases to be a mediator, becomes autonomous and unique artwork throughout the 18th century; Since then it has never ceased to be. The tour by the sample begins with drawings of those artists who, like Edgar Degas, Auguste Rodin, Egon Schiele, and Pablo Picasso, will lay the foundations of the art of the new 20th century that was to come; so since 1900 occurred various transformations and a process of renewal which will directly result in what we now know as modernity. All the exhibits are part of the collection of drawings of the 20th century, heritage of Fundación MAPFRE and exhibited in the past years, among others, at the Bass Museum of Art Miami (2008), El Salvador (2015) Museum of art, Museum of fine arts of Seville (2015) and Mus EE d'Art moderne de Troyes (France, 2017). • The Museum is a privileged space from the surroundings. A lot of afforestation and a set of modern art amazing architecture! Internally has an exhibition of Segall and other alternatives. Is a small but pleasant garden with bench to rest and read amidst sculptures by Segall. Really good coffee which also serves meals.

  • Federal Museum with space for important temporary exhibitions in addition to displaying some of the works by Lasar Segall. The street is quiet and just Park in front. It features gardens for contemplation with some sculptures, cafeteria, courses and cinema with films out of the loop.
