Museu Lasar Segall, Sao Paulo

(4.3/5 based on 70+ reviews on the web)
Showcasing paintings and sculptures of a distinguished Lithuanian-born artist who made his home in Brazil in 1923, Museu Lasar Segall contains nearly every work he created during his life in this country. The museum was founded in 1967 by Segall’s wife and children, and is housed in the family’s former residence, which has been carefully conserved to protect the spirit of the artist’s creative process. You can take a free guided tour or attend a brief course in Segall’s lesser-known areas of creativity, such as engraving and photography. The building also contains a library, a small movie theater, and a coffee shop. Drop in to learn about the work of this Modernist artist who transformed Brazilian art with his revolutionary use of color and lighting. For travelers who use our world travel planner, Sao Paulo holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Museu Lasar Segall and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • Former home of the artist made of Museum. It's very well take care in every detail. I noticed that there weren't many paintings by the artist, just a few prints, no design and collection of sculptures. The sculptures are the forte of the Museum. Of course, there's a room in reform, which seemed to be the room of paintings. They said there is no forecast for end of reform. Anyway there is a large collection in the room especially, many works of different moments of life of the sculptor. There is a garden in front and another behind that complete with outdoor sculptures. There is a small café and next to it a room that makes rotating samples, in this last tour sample LIUBA, Bulgarian artist living in Brazil, more abstract works but you don't lose in beauty. My opinion about the Museum: perfect from beginning to end. Lives up to the artist. Most important factors: free ride (April 2017) and the Museum runs until the 19:00 (a rare thing in Sampa). I missed the paintings, but it is a wonderful ride and great story.

  • The Lasar Segall Museum, is one of the best examples of the desire to keep the memory alive, is the reason why art is an instrument of resistance. In addition to preserving the work of this important artist, keeps your Studio open to courses and development of new artists.
