Museu Lasar Segall, Sao Paulo

(4.3/5 based on 70+ reviews on the web)
Showcasing paintings and sculptures of a distinguished Lithuanian-born artist who made his home in Brazil in 1923, Museu Lasar Segall contains nearly every work he created during his life in this country. The museum was founded in 1967 by Segall’s wife and children, and is housed in the family’s former residence, which has been carefully conserved to protect the spirit of the artist’s creative process. You can take a free guided tour or attend a brief course in Segall’s lesser-known areas of creativity, such as engraving and photography. The building also contains a library, a small movie theater, and a coffee shop. Drop in to learn about the work of this Modernist artist who transformed Brazilian art with his revolutionary use of color and lighting. For travelers who use our world travel planner, Sao Paulo holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Museu Lasar Segall and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • The Lasar Segall Museum, is one of the best examples of the desire to keep the memory alive, is the reason why art is an instrument of resistance. In addition to preserving the work of this important artist, keeps your Studio open to courses and development of new artists.

  • With free entry, super quiet street of agitated district of Vila Mariana, the Museum, which is housed in the family home, is a delight. Has 2 exhibitions of Lasar Segall and another space for other artists. Has a cute coffee, but which unfortunately was closed. Offers film sessions too. A free!

  • The Museum is very small, and it was the House where Lasar Segall lived here in SP I expected a larger and more complete, but you have an interesting sample of the stages by which the painter passed and know a little of his life. The visit lasts on average 1 hour and a half. There's a café on site, but I did not get to consume anything. Admission is free, then it's worth it.
