Museu da Lingua Portuguesa, Sao Paulo

One of only a few museums in the whole world dedicated to a single language, Museu da Lingua Portuguesa is located in the renovated Estacao da Luz railway station. The busy station was chosen to house the museum because it was precisely here that many non-Portuguese speaking European and Asian immigrants got acquainted with the language for the very first time. Wander around the old station to have a look at its iconic Romanesque red-brick arches and iron pillars. Use the museum’s displays to gain a better understanding of the Portuguese language’s origins, history, and evolution over time. Though the museum’s exhibits are all in Portuguese, foreign visitors can still pick up the rhythm and flow of the language through videos, recitations, and interactive presentations. • It has been closed since a fire distroyed almost it all. It is not told when will be open. It used to have plays with sounds and words. It had a projection where you stay in the middle of colour...  more »
  • A really great place to visit and understand the Portuguese language. The staff is really helpful. The only downsize is that the surroundings are not that nice.
  • excelente Where: Museu da Lingua Portuguesa, Sao Paulo How was it: A museum for the Portuguese language. It was great and I (Serge) only found out about it while studying Portuguese. Funny enough, Eli having lived in Sao Paulo her entire life, had never heard of this place before. We both enjoyed our stay and were sad to hear the building burned, while we were in Brazil of all places. Hope they rebuild it soon so others can enjoy. Grade: Eli = 5, Serge = 5 Recommend: yes
  • All my "gringos" friends liked it and I as well
  • sadly burned down in late 2015, will hopefully reopen soon... it's one of it's kind
