Independencia Park, Sao Paulo

4.5
#7 of 50 in Parks in Sao Paulo
Parisian gardens surround the pedestrian walkways with fountains and manicured bushes. In the center of Independencia Park you'll find a statue paying tribute to the struggle for independence from Portugal. It's neoclassical figures are triumphant and look fully prepared to fight for their freedom. You'll also find the Paulista Museum, or sometimes known as the "Museum of Independence." This colonial structure houses the history of the revolution as well as the cause and effects. After your leisurely tour, relax on one of the lawns and enjoy the ambience. • Impressive monument to independence do Brazil! It is an Esplanade with a gigantic monument at its end by the Ipiranga River, although is somewhat complex to get worth visiting it. 100% recommended.

  • It is absurd to the abandonment of the largest and most beautiful Museum of the city of São Paulo. There were at least with our history would not abandoned or closed for years. Behind the Museum there is a park with jogging track that is one of the most picturesque sites of Sao Paulo for a race or simply walk. Ipiranga Museum gardens are beautiful despite the abandonment of the Town Hall.

  • A nice place to take your kid your gand-children to play on a weekend.
  • This a best full place, and have the most importa history of Brazil, near the edge of the river Ipiranga where Dom Pedro have said “ independence or dying” and this the museum in this moment are closed because reconstruction/reorganization of the place where the statue and square are saved
  • Really nice place like just to see and rest sometime after a long walk
  • Cool place to spend a sunday with tout friends and family
  • One of the most beautiful places in the city! Not as crowded as Ibirapuera or Paulista, but harder to get to... The historic landmark where Dom Pedro II declared Brazil's I from Portugal and home to USP's history museum (under long-term renovations for several more years), it's definitely worth the long-ish trip to Ipiranga to see the beautiful garden on a sunny São Paulo weekend. One of the best places in the city for skateboarding, with plenty of space to spread out for a picnic or sunbathing. Don't miss the Museum Food Truck park at the south end, across the street from the museum - live music, good variety of food, beer, bathrooms, and family and pet friendly. Not the easiest to get to - metro or taxi - but traffic will make it feel further than it is.
