  • This used to be one of São Paulo´s most important churches and served as the city´s cathedral until the Catedral da Sé was opened in the mid-1950s. A church has stood on this site since early colonial...  more »
  • Matrix parish our Lady of the conception (Santa Iphigenia), located near the Vale do Anhangabaú, the current church of St. Iphigenia is built in the place of one of the city's oldest chapels, the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, built before 1720. This first chapel was reformed from 1794, and, as I edit the Prince Regent Dom João VI in 1809 appeared the parish of Nossa Senhora da Conceição and Santa Iphigenia, which gave its name to the largo and the neighborhood around the Church. John also determined that the brotherhood of Saint Iphigenia and Santo Elesbão, whose members were freed blacks, if set in the new Church. On the outside, the Church of St. Iphigenia is an example of Romanesque Revival architecture of character, with two small towers and a central tower high the massive. The facades are decorated with rosettes and friezes Lombards, typical of Romanesque architecture. The access to the inside is done by a main portal of multiple arches of arches back perfect, also Romanesque feature. Inside the walls and vaults are decorated with multicolored medievalists paintings. The three rose Windows and the Windows are decorated with stained glass Windows brought from Venice. Below each of the rosettes of the nave there is a painting by Henri Bernard (c. 1923), representing the Holy Family and the other the wedding at Cana. Other painters with works inside are Benedito Calixto and Carlos Oswald, among others. The vaults of the interior has Gothic-inspired ribbing. The ship has two Gothic wood carved pulpits, imported from France, in 1920. One brings a relief depicting Saint Peter and the other Sao Paulo. In 1924, the organ was inaugurated, brought from Germany, and currently is working partially, in the form of a small positive installed in place of the old main altar. The rest of the organ is in your original place, the choir, disassembled, awaiting restoration. The Walcker organ is one of the best in the country, and despite your bad state of conservation can be heard on the Sunday morning masses.

  • A good place to learn about and enjoy the architecture of the Church. Located in the city centre, in a well-accessible, close to the subway. Recommend

  • The street St. Iphigenia was already much better. Today is a den of peddlers of pirate CDs, pickpockets and rascals 171. Purchases of components for computers and mobile phones over the Internet are safer and achieve best prices. Not to mention that on the Internet the search for quality products and account is much simpler and far less tiring. Recommend the St. Efigênia only for the purchase of electronic and digital components, such as transistors, resistors, integrated circuit boards, etc.

  • The Santa Efigênia is a meeting point for those who need technology and sound products, as well as in São Paulo. VA always uber or taxi and avoid drive. Walking is much better. Note: watch your wallet.
