Ponta do Santo Cristo Beach, Sao Miguel do Gostoso

(4.3/5 based on 200+ reviews on the web)
Wind surfers will enjoy Ponta do Santo Cristo Beach, since its strong and constant wind is perfect for windsurfing and kite surfing, as will collectors, since sea treasures such as shells are found along the beach. You can also sit coconut water and juice from the beach bar and enjoy the sunsets this beach is famous for. There is a legend about the beach’s name: the legend says that in 1501, after a colonial expedition arrived and placed its mark at Marco beach, they group sailed to a protruding point where they noticed a group of indigenous people waving. The explorers decided to approach this group since they appeared civilized. However, they were taken by surprise when the indigenous group captured, killed and ate their priest in full view of the other members for the expedition who were, by then, trying to escape. Sometime later, the crucifix of the priest was found giving the name to the place – Ponta do Santo Cristo.
