Zoo / Aquarium
Started in 1988, Projeto Tamar Guriri monitors 53 kilometers (33 mi) of preserved coastline on the island of Guriri, and protects an endangered population of sea turtles nesting there. These turtle-friendly beaches are noted for small natural pools forming at low tide. You can time your visit to the island for the annual hatching of turtle eggs, which has become a major attraction for ecotourists in recent years. Tamar Project staff members are present for this event, and can provide you with educational insight into the world of these rare sea creatures. The project also maintains several enclosed tanks and a large aquarium, designed to allow scientist and visitors a chance to observe the turtles without disturbing them. • I went in October/15. Was closed, and a guard who was on the scene reported that it was due to lack of funds for maintenance. Seeing from the outside seemed to be well wide and interesting.

  • A great example of citizenship, knowledge and preservation of nature. Nice work! Great for kids of all ages, from 1 to 80 years! A lesson in environmental education. Learn all about the turtles! If you're lucky, will have the chance to see the turtles be forwarded back to the sea, it's exciting!

  • The site was closed and had a notice on the gate. From the outside it looked like he was inactive for some time. Sorry, environmental education in these locations is very important.
