Nossa Senhora do Rosario dos Pretos, Sao Luis

Categories: Churches, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.3/5 based on 40+ reviews on the web
Simple and small, Nossa Senhora do Rosario dos Pretos is located in the city’s historic center. This church was used by the local slave population during colonial times, and was therefore not greatly decorated or embellished. A guided tour can take you to this well-preserved historic site, which today serves as a reminder of a deep gulf that once separated the black slave community from their white European masters. The church, built in 1772 and dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary, features several images of its patron saint and walls covered with panels made of colorful tiles, for which this region is renowned. • Unfortunately neglected. Alcântara lives of tourism but the Government is bad. I knew your John, known as balloon. It's a very nice man dedicated to please visitors. The rest of the city is in a bad state of repair. The ruins full of grass and dirt, smelling, are used as a toilet. It's not like living from tourism. The people rude and unpleasant.

  • For those who enjoy stories, worth traveling a few KM to the city of Alcântara to meet this little church built by slaves.

  • I don't particularly like the idea of tourism in churches, because many people do without any respect to the environment and to the devotion of the people. This is a simple Church, although rich in history. There are a few meters in front of the school, there are two fats.
