Pinacotheca Benedicto Calixto, Santos
Categories: Tourist Spots, Educational Sites
Recently restored, Pinacotheca Benedicto Calixto is an impressive waterfront mansion housing a permanent exhibition of about 50 works by one of Brazil’s most respected painters. See Benedicto Calixto’s seascapes, landscapes, portraits, and nudes here, or visit the museum library for a collection of art books. The house was built in the early 1900s, in an eclectic style, and formerly served as a private home to several wealthy families. The indoor garden is a testament to the luxury once enjoyed by coffee barons. Make this a short stop on your tour of the city, or time your visit for one of many cultural events and concerts frequently taking place at the museum. Admission is free.
