Where to stay in Salvador

The majority of accommodations in Salvador fall into three distinct groupings. If you want to be close to the best historical attractions, stay in or near the old town of Pelourinho, a few minutes from the city's west-facing coastline. This also puts you in the heart of Salvador's tourist-driven nightlife. Your second option is to stay at the southwestern tip of the city, in the neighborhood of Barram, where you'll have instant access to one of Salvador's favorite beaches. Finally, look a bit farther afield to Rio Vermelho, a quieter beachside neighborhood facing south.

  • Located in praça Terreiro de Jesus, the Church of São Pedro dos Clérigos account with rococo façade. Its interior is very nice. Worth the visit.

  • Beautiful and with a cultural wealth as the other churches of the Largo do Terreiro de Jesus. Hard to be visited, as the tour guides who work in the region is usually closed. The altar is wonderful and the roof has a painting that depicts a biblical passage. I was lucky to get in, because the day was a procession and a religious celebration, but due the celebration could not know the details of the Church and not do or take lots of pictures.

  • Two tours in a ... Clerigos Tower annexed to the Church, so it's pretty much the same visit. We were lucky to get the organ working, very beautiful!
