Sao Marcelo (do Mar) fort, Salvador

4.1
#10 of 62 in Museums in Salvador
Specialty Museum Museum
The museum Sao Marcelo (do Mar) fort is erected on a small bank reef about 275 m (300 yards) from the shore. Opposite the historic city center, the Renaissance-style building was built to protect the city and withstand currents. The central tower is only 15 m (49 ft) high, making it an easy target for enemy vessels. Still, it will provide you with a good view of the city of Salvador and surrounding nature. Besides the tower, you can also dungeon, the chapel, gunpowder warehouse, and barracks, located under the tower itself. The museum has a video room, art exhibits display area, and a cafeteria. Where to stay in Salvador

The majority of accommodations in Salvador fall into three distinct groupings. If you want to be close to the best historical attractions, stay in or near the old town of Pelourinho, a few minutes from the city's west-facing coastline. This also puts you in the heart of Salvador's tourist-driven nightlife. Your second option is to stay at the southwestern tip of the city, in the neighborhood of Barram, where you'll have instant access to one of Salvador's favorite beaches. Finally, look a bit farther afield to Rio Vermelho, a quieter beachside neighborhood facing south.

  • Historical Place
  • Is closed and didn't tell anyone. Bad business card for tourism. Rio Grande do Sul came to visit him and I couldn't.

  • Beautiful site, where you can see a wonderful sunset. This is a unique military building, built in the middle of the sea, on a sandbank.
