Where to stay in Salvador

The majority of accommodations in Salvador fall into three distinct groupings. If you want to be close to the best historical attractions, stay in or near the old town of Pelourinho, a few minutes from the city's west-facing coastline. This also puts you in the heart of Salvador's tourist-driven nightlife. Your second option is to stay at the southwestern tip of the city, in the neighborhood of Barram, where you'll have instant access to one of Salvador's favorite beaches. Finally, look a bit farther afield to Rio Vermelho, a quieter beachside neighborhood facing south.

  • Rio Vermelho, in Salvador is full of restaurants for all budgets and there is something to suit every taste. Anyway if you prefer to try something truly local, take a ride on the sea front of the "mercado municipal rio vermelho" and introduce yourself as #Gringo to the fishermans out there might be the best choice.
