  • Had not returned to the Red River after your retirement. It was a very nice surprise when I was there this month. The areas of fishmongers and butchers, were well flagged, with a very clean and assorted stores. We were looking for a big meat and beans. In supermarkets these days, unfortunately, only meet such meat into small pieces, which, with the cooking, swoon. There, in Ceasinha, we found large portions of bacon, pork chop, beef jerky. And more sausages, paios and best black beans, rare in supermarkets. There are other areas, with shops selling grains, candies, wine, rum and a crafts sale wing, pots of varying sizes, etc. Still has an area of small restaurants, which has been highly praised by critics. External parking and underground. Pay out in a bar on the ground floor. Excellent market.

  • Typical market in several cities in the country with typical local items. New structure and well preserved. Has apparently good restaurants. Is pretty much typical of Salvador (of memories the food).

  • Local market with a wide variery of products; from fresh seafood to clay pots, it has it all. It's a good place to buy traditional food to take home with you. You can find properly packaged frozen acarajés, dried shrimp, dendê oil, tapioca flour, and sundried meat. It's also a good place for the health conscious - nuts on bulk, whole grains, etc. Besides the grocery area, there is a food court with several good restaurants - not just Bahian food. The food court it's open and very enjoyable. It's a good place to grab a bite to eat, enjoy a cold beer, and on the right days, live music.
  • Rio Vermelho, in Salvador is full of restaurants for all budgets and there is something to suit every taste. Anyway if you prefer to try something truly local, take a ride on the sea front of the "mercado municipal rio vermelho" and introduce yourself as #Gringo to the fishermans out there might be the best choice. Fresh fish. beer flows

Where to stay in Salvador

The majority of accommodations in Salvador fall into three distinct groupings. If you want to be close to the best historical attractions, stay in or near the old town of Pelourinho, a few minutes from the city's west-facing coastline. This also puts you in the heart of Salvador's tourist-driven nightlife. Your second option is to stay at the southwestern tip of the city, in the neighborhood of Barram, where you'll have instant access to one of Salvador's favorite beaches. Finally, look a bit farther afield to Rio Vermelho, a quieter beachside neighborhood facing south.
