Where to stay in Salvador

The majority of accommodations in Salvador fall into three distinct groupings. If you want to be close to the best historical attractions, stay in or near the old town of Pelourinho, a few minutes from the city's west-facing coastline. This also puts you in the heart of Salvador's tourist-driven nightlife. Your second option is to stay at the southwestern tip of the city, in the neighborhood of Barram, where you'll have instant access to one of Salvador's favorite beaches. Finally, look a bit farther afield to Rio Vermelho, a quieter beachside neighborhood facing south.

  • Famous post card of Salvador. To go up only cost 15 cents of reais and you can have access to a beautiful panoramic view of the coast and to the historic center! You need to go check this elevator!
  • Dirty, long line and no air conditioned. But, ok, one time good to visit. On the top beautiful view.
  • the price is very low, you do not have a view from the inside of the elevator. nothing special on it, however you may gain a time using it instead of walking it's 72 meters high after some hours walking.
  • This elevator gives you access to another part of the city located in a high plateau. The view from above is really stunnig. To use this elevator you have to pay a small fee that's less than R$1,00. It's worth paying though. From the top of the elevator you can see the Bahia Marina (photo), Modelo Market and more.
  • Gets you from the upper downtown and historical center to the harbor and marina area in a matter of seconds. Very convenient! The view from the upper platform are the best in Salvador. Watch the sunset on the terrace next to it. A terrific experience!
