Where to stay in Salvador

The majority of accommodations in Salvador fall into three distinct groupings. If you want to be close to the best historical attractions, stay in or near the old town of Pelourinho, a few minutes from the city's west-facing coastline. This also puts you in the heart of Salvador's tourist-driven nightlife. Your second option is to stay at the southwestern tip of the city, in the neighborhood of Barram, where you'll have instant access to one of Salvador's favorite beaches. Finally, look a bit farther afield to Rio Vermelho, a quieter beachside neighborhood facing south.

  • Interesting museum with a bit of Salvador history. It isn't very big and you might miss it if you're not looking for it. I've been in better city museums, but it was interesting.  more »

  • The Museum tells the story of the city and contains a huge variety of old and modern, of the sacred and the profane. Saw costumes of orixas of candomble, the personal belongings of the poet Castro Alves and many paintings.
