  • Unlike other museums to House the Red River is a species of diving that allows us to see the world through the eyes of Jorge Amado and Zelia Gawain. The visit is interactive and can see objects and rooms that lead us to see and feel the world through the eyes of Jorge Amado. After visit Salvador WINS other colors and flavors and load the bahia in the head. Great starting point for people and tourists. Change to look immediately! I suggest visit with time and enjoy together the guide book streets and mysteries of São Jorge's Savior.

  • I've always been a fan of the work of Jorge Amado and the Red River. This House is a perfect combination of all.

  • The space is very nice and organized, a Bahian jewelry in Red River, to immerse yourself in the history of this wonderful couple and your literary work. Program to make the tour, best way to get to know the peculiarities of the architecture and history of the place. The entire staff is friendly and helpful. It must be a morning or afternoon to know the space and enjoy the facilities. There's a bar with snacks, little variety, but the quality makes up for it. Is charged a fee to enter (the site has current value) and Wednesday is free admission. Space with accessibility.

  • Lots to explore. I didn't know anything about George Amado but now I know how his kitchen and bedroom looked like. It was a cool place to see. Seems like a good source of information on Bahian culture.
  • Good to see if you know Jorge Amado or are interested in Bahian culture. The gardens are great and the house itself is pretty impressive, but lacks lots of things from how it originally was. One of the guides speaks English. Can be difficult to park on the street, normally full.
  • Well preserved, immersive and interactive. A highly insightful look into Jorge & Zelia's lives, loves and inspirations. Free on Wednesdays too.
  • Great restoration and very well organized guided visit. No languages other than Portuguese, though.
  • This is a very interesting place to visit: a family home of Brazilian writers Jorge Amado & Zelia Gattai turned into a charming house museum; a great place to learn about the spirit of Bahia, and also experience the much talked about "bohemian" heritage of the Rio Vermelho neighbourhood. Recommended.

Where to stay in Salvador

The majority of accommodations in Salvador fall into three distinct groupings. If you want to be close to the best historical attractions, stay in or near the old town of Pelourinho, a few minutes from the city's west-facing coastline. This also puts you in the heart of Salvador's tourist-driven nightlife. Your second option is to stay at the southwestern tip of the city, in the neighborhood of Barram, where you'll have instant access to one of Salvador's favorite beaches. Finally, look a bit farther afield to Rio Vermelho, a quieter beachside neighborhood facing south.
