Bahia Art Museum, Salvador

(4.5/5 based on 240+ reviews on the web)
The oldest museum in the state of Bahia, having been founded in 1918, Bahia Art Museum is the home of approximately 5,000 works of art, many of which are of significant artistic and historical value. Allow yourself to become lost in the museum’s collection, which boasts a variety of artifacts assembled from a number of different sources. Be sure not to miss the paintings of José Teófilo de Jesus or the museum’s collection of work from the European schools of art. If you prefer architecture to art, you’re sure to be impressed by the building’s neo-colonial grandeur and colorfully tiled interior. Our Salvador family vacation planner makes visiting Bahia Art Museum and other Salvador attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • Interesting Museum which usually has some good shows. Has the small, when compared to large museums in the world.

  • Like other museums of the city, this also has some good shows in a tranquil setting, well located and easy to access. An invitation to art lovers.

  • The MAM in Bahia is has a beautiful architecture and very interesting art work. To go there take a bus from Neiborhood Barra in direction to Mercado. There is also a unique restaurant inside of a cave. A place to relax and have a coffe or a bahian food. There is also a nice view of the see.
  • Best place for a sunset in town! Also have some good expositions. You should only go by car or cab because the neighborhood is dangerous.
  • Great old building housing variable exhibitions of modern art. Not easy to access without a car.
  • Unmissable, get there by taxi
  • Famous museum, but little to see, unfortunately
