Vermelha Beach, Rio de Janeiro

Beach
Nestled in a small cove between two mountains, Vermelha Beach is one of Rio de Janeiro's smallest beaches, but it is also one of its most distinctive. Unlike the fine white sand of Rio's other beaches, Vermelha Beach's sand is a beautiful reddish yellow--hence the name, "Red Beach." Directly behind the beach is a pleasant park where you can enjoy the shade or take the cable car to Sugarloaf Mountain. A 2 km (1.2 mi) adventure trail also begins at the beach, taking you through a short stretch of tropical rainforest populated by monkeys and lush plant life. • Very quiet and cute, is next to the entrance of the Sugar Loaf cable-cars, worth a stop over there and put your foot in the water.

  • Small, very secure and beach with a beautiful view of the sugar loaf. Sand coarse and few people. Ideal for a bathroom fast after visiting the Sugar Loaf

  • It is very small but incredible. The stunning view of the sugar loaf and the sand is golden. The sea is calmer than in Copacabana/Ipanema

  • Lovely little beach. Doesn't get that many visitors so it feels nice and secluded. Great for taking a step back to enjoy the view to Pão de Açúcar and Niterói.
  • The most gorgeous beach in Rio de Janeiro! The calm water, stunning landscape and tiny sand line make the perfect match. You can spend all day there just floating on the sea, looking at Sugar Loaf and enjoying the sun. There is parking area (not very easy to find a place since you have the Sugar Loaf Station beside), rental bike station and bus stop nearby.
  • A wondrous vista of Sugarloaf and the ocean. "Red Beach" they call it due to the red reflection caused by the sun hitting tiny garnet crystals on the beach. (Wikipedia) Uncrowded and away from the other astir beaches, I'm def taking a dive next time around.
  • Great for surfing. Huge waves !
  • Nice, tranquil almost hidden away beach of the city..great place to just relax from the hustle and bustle..
