Vermelha Beach, Rio de Janeiro

4.2
Nestled in a small cove between two mountains, Vermelha Beach is one of Rio de Janeiro's smallest beaches, but it is also one of its most distinctive. Unlike the fine white sand of Rio's other beaches, Vermelha Beach's sand is a beautiful reddish yellow--hence the name, "Red Beach." Directly behind the beach is a pleasant park where you can enjoy the shade or take the cable car to Sugarloaf Mountain. A 2 km (1.2 mi) adventure trail also begins at the beach, taking you through a short stretch of tropical rainforest populated by monkeys and lush plant life. • They recommended it as a wonderful, family beach and rest, but it is not so. I went one Sunday and was full. The environment is bad. It is very dirty and the amount of waste in the water is awesome!. I had never met a beach so dirty. It really is a garbage dump.

  • It is a beach girl, really beautiful, framed between two hills, photo offering is a postcard. The positive side of being "boxed" is making waves to come gently to the beach. Ideal if these guys. Coarse sand coast, has lots of activity, since it is very densely populated, but by the small area that has does that sometimes not this exactly clean.

  • Really cool place to come and relax. Not quite as busy or exciting as Copacabana beach, but if quiet and calm is what you want, you'll find it here. During the day it feels pretty safe but not quite sure what it's like at night.
  • The old nice and beautiful beach we always love to came back and enjoy
  • Not a place to swim or scuba, right at the entrance of Guanabara Bay. Just enjoy the view (and check pista Claudio Coutinho, for an even better view).
  • Gorgeous lagoon like beach with big crashing waves, people sunbathing, a few fishing and the tall cliffs including Sugar Loaf, above. Make sure to enjoy one of the fresh, chilled coconuts. The guys poke a hole, insert straw and get hydrated naturally.
  • historical militairy plaza, safe, filled with monuments, surrounded by nature.

Where to stay in Rio de Janeiro

Accommodations in Rio de Janeiro cover as diverse a spectrum as the city itself. At the top end, you can find plenty of luxury hotels along the beaches of Zona Sul, the city's southern zone, which includes the renowned Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. For something to suit a budget, but with good beach access, look around the less crowded neighborhoods of Catele and Flamengo. If you want to stay as centrally as possible, without feeling like you're in a business district, look for lodgings in the colorful, bohemian neighborhood of Santa Teresa.
