Vermelha Beach, Rio de Janeiro

4.2
Nestled in a small cove between two mountains, Vermelha Beach is one of Rio de Janeiro's smallest beaches, but it is also one of its most distinctive. Unlike the fine white sand of Rio's other beaches, Vermelha Beach's sand is a beautiful reddish yellow--hence the name, "Red Beach." Directly behind the beach is a pleasant park where you can enjoy the shade or take the cable car to Sugarloaf Mountain. A 2 km (1.2 mi) adventure trail also begins at the beach, taking you through a short stretch of tropical rainforest populated by monkeys and lush plant life. • Super quiet beach next to the cable car.. Does not have as many tourists, more locals. The sea is calm and the coarse sand is hot! Great weather to spend all afternoon.

  • Very beautiful place! In addition to being a tranquil beach, for being military area, there is a path near Fort for another mile or so of a wonderful walk, with a very beautiful. Super worth it!

  • A beautiful landscape that suffers from the lack of education of the regulars that the use of this small space does not take care with your trash. The public bathrooms on site are also in a deplorable state. Yet you continue serving landscape to images of graduation tests and often pregnant. Next there has a track entry simple and enjoyable to do.

  • A beautful beach as it is, however bellow the major ones as Ipanema and Copacabana. In a long stay can be an option to check it.
  • Nice, secluded beach to enjoy before or after the hike up Sugarloaf Mountain. Even features an earthcache if geocaching is your thing.
  • Beautiful little beach right at the foot of Sugar Loaf mountain (Pão de Açúcar).
  • Tiny beach, no sea waves, really nice landscape. Really nice place if you want to take some good photos
  • Lovely little beach. Doesn't get that many visitors so it feels nice and secluded. Great for taking a step back to enjoy the view to Pão de Açúcar and Niterói.

Where to stay in Rio de Janeiro

Accommodations in Rio de Janeiro cover as diverse a spectrum as the city itself. At the top end, you can find plenty of luxury hotels along the beaches of Zona Sul, the city's southern zone, which includes the renowned Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. For something to suit a budget, but with good beach access, look around the less crowded neighborhoods of Catele and Flamengo. If you want to stay as centrally as possible, without feeling like you're in a business district, look for lodgings in the colorful, bohemian neighborhood of Santa Teresa.
