Urca Beach, Rio de Janeiro

3.5
A beach with breathtaking views, Urca Beach is perfect if you want to blend in with the locals. This small beach faces Guanabara Bay and provides you with views of Sugarloaf and Christ the Redeemer. The placidity of the water is perfect for taking a dip and hiking is possible along the path behind the kids’ park. The infrastructure is good with bathrooms, cafes, and restaurants. Enjoy some refreshing coconut water and in the evening you might even hear a Peruvian flute being played. • We arrived very early in the sand still had few people when passing the hours filled completely but there was no problem. Many families and residents of the city attend which allows you to maintain order and respect including fewer stalls in other areas. Has a square in front with public restroom (pay $1.00) not very clean but usable. The waters are very calm, without waves. Some say that was already very polluted but it's been a while since the waters are suitable for shower. The only downside is that there is no Lifeguard. Although quiet, you can't get much, do the deep part has immense depth. The right side is the Morro da Babilônia (buildings and military salons) and on the left side the morro da Urca (Sugar Loaf). There is a flat 3 km walkway by the side of the Urca very good to do gleaming landscape and enjoying a chat and another quite steep which reaches the first stone of the Pão de Açucar (Transcarioca Trail-the first long trail route from Brazil). My 9 year old daughter made 5 stops but came to an end. You can admire the landscapes, use bathrooms and bars around the stone. You can climb to the second rock from the Sugar Loaf or go down to the beach by paying tram ticket value. In case if down may also opt for return on the same track. Note that the path must hours closing the 18 hours (no daylight saving time the 19 hours). Of all the beaches of Rio de Janeiro that was what pleased me most in all aspects.

  • With Sun, walk the trail to the left side, after the tour go to the beach to enjoy a swim or paddle. In the Military Circle of Red Beach has an excellent restaurant for lunch or a snack. Enjoy Rio de Janeiro's beautiful nature. Good ride!

  • The beach is small, nothing special. But there is a spectacular little restaurant! The owner, a Dutch, very friendly. I don't remember the name of the restaurant, is something "bristo" but we love!

Where to stay in Rio de Janeiro

Accommodations in Rio de Janeiro cover as diverse a spectrum as the city itself. At the top end, you can find plenty of luxury hotels along the beaches of Zona Sul, the city's southern zone, which includes the renowned Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. For something to suit a budget, but with good beach access, look around the less crowded neighborhoods of Catele and Flamengo. If you want to stay as centrally as possible, without feeling like you're in a business district, look for lodgings in the colorful, bohemian neighborhood of Santa Teresa.
