Urca Beach, Rio de Janeiro

2.9
A beach with breathtaking views, Urca Beach is perfect if you want to blend in with the locals. This small beach faces Guanabara Bay and provides you with views of Sugarloaf and Christ the Redeemer. The placidity of the water is perfect for taking a dip and hiking is possible along the path behind the kids’ park. The infrastructure is good with bathrooms, cafes, and restaurants. Enjoy some refreshing coconut water and in the evening you might even hear a Peruvian flute being played. • A small beach with some more authenticity than the larger well-known beaches. Despite the near the cable car to the Sugarloaf Mountain is, it is not at all popular with tourists. There are only locals and that is very nice to see. Formerly it housed the military.

  • The Urca Beach has been a wonderful laser option today, polluted and cluttered, is a ripped off for who wants to bathe. On sunny weekends, dozens of ragged street vendors invade the beach and its surroundings, in search of a clientele that comes from afar and stay the whole day at the beach. In the crowded beach, it's hard to see the sand and the water's edge. Scene from hell. During the week, a few regulars, most locations, monitoring water quality, since the CEDAE insists on dumping sewage in the area, a sadness and an environmental crime. The beautiful building of the old Casino of Urca is 50% restored by the IED. I hope that the FDI legal battles to win against the inhabitants of mind short and return to the restoration of the other half.

  • I've been in Urca Beach by day and night, is a very quiet place, because it has only one entry and is surrounded by military units. It's a great place to sit and enjoy nature, take beautiful photos with the Sugar Loaf Mountain in the background. It is worth visiting and if you have conditions make the ascent of cable car which is next.

Where to stay in Rio de Janeiro

Accommodations in Rio de Janeiro cover as diverse a spectrum as the city itself. At the top end, you can find plenty of luxury hotels along the beaches of Zona Sul, the city's southern zone, which includes the renowned Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. For something to suit a budget, but with good beach access, look around the less crowded neighborhoods of Catele and Flamengo. If you want to stay as centrally as possible, without feeling like you're in a business district, look for lodgings in the colorful, bohemian neighborhood of Santa Teresa.
