  • The Train Museum is located in the Engenho de Dentro, in front of the railway station in the neighborhood. You can get to it, if you come from South or Central, taking the train in Brazil's Central parador. After the Nilton Santos Stadium, known as Engenhão. The visit is free, it opens the 10:00 and closes I think at 4:00 pm. There is no guide but the staff were very friendly, the internal acquis is well maintained, cars, the locomotive Baroness, documents, equipment, maintenance of the season. Already the locomotive Leopoldina that stay in the yard outside is poorly conserved. Worth the visit to learn more not only of history but also to train an era in the country.

  • I made it to the museum on Friday, April 7th, 2017 at 1:00 PM, only to find that it was closed for renovation. The gate was closed and the security guard shooed me away. A sign - in Portuguese - seems to say it will reopen August 25th, but I would check before coming all the way out there. Don't miss the Olympics Museum on the same street. One thought - Museums often renovate - but is it necessary to close the entire museum to do so?

  • The collection of the Museum is fantastic, the ability to view historical machines with so much wealth in the details, is an incredible experience. The staff is very attentive and requests. The Director of the Museum offers to talk and take questions. The only problem is the lack of funding and of interest to so-called organs competent to improve the site. The space of the Museum has been cruelly cut off for the construction of Engenhão, and consequently, many machines were in the courtyard outside, and therefore suffer from the change of climatic conditions, which will cause (and is already causing) a huge damage in their States of conservation. The good will and effort of the whole team of the Museum, to safeguard your collection, unfortunately this running in the absence of commitment from the authorities. A wonderful collection can be lost if nothing is done. With tears in his eyes the Director gets upset being tied up helplessly do to protect that important heritage. Venting aside, is a great place for a visit. First museum where my father took me, unforgettable!

  • Unfortunately, the train museum is abandoned. Much of the history of our country's move to moths, maintenance free, kill for all sides and the trains it makes you sad to see.
