The seat of a Roman Catholic archdiocese, The Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint Sebastian boasts a celebrated modern design inspired by Mayan pyramids. Dedicated to the city's patron saint, the cathedral features four long strips of colorful stained glass windows, spanning 64 m (210 ft) from the floor to the illuminated cross on the ceiling. The building's construction started in the mid-1960s and took 15 years to complete. Step inside to see the awe-inspiring interior: stripped of any excessive decoration, the spacious hall can accommodate nearly 20,000.   • Very good place for the story's internal Museum in which part of the history of Brazil. Cathedral quite different from traditional Catholic churches.

  • It is striking just reach the neighborhood of Lapa, a very different to other cathedrals construction. Very cute. You must arrive before 17.00 to enter.
