Sugarloaf Mountain, Rio de Janeiro

4.8
#1 of 4,143 in Parks in Brazil
Ride or walk to the city’s iconic Sugarloaf Mountain, named in the 16th century after the conical shape of a concentrated loaf of sugar, which it strongly resembles. The mountain is located at the mouth of Guanabara Bay, on a peninsula sticking out into the Atlantic Ocean. Towering 396 m (1,299 ft) above the bay, the mountain is one of several monolithic granite and quartz formations rising from the water’s edge. To reach the summit, you can take one of two glass-walled cable cars, which operate continuously throughout the day. These bubble-shaped cars, which can hold up to 65 people each and run along a 1,400-meter (4,593 ft) scenic route, offer passengers 360-degree views of the surrounding city. • What can we say to this wonderful look still big. It is simply stunning views in all directions and always something new to discover. Were the sunset above and drank in the bar our accompanying Sundowner. Simply terrific.

  • I went with my family on a Monday morning. All very agile and the Sugar Loaf Hill lounge is excellent. As for vista and we talk. A very valuable experience.

  • Unique experience! The cable car you can see beautiful landscapes and scenery of Rio de Janeiro. Well organized site, with plenty of space for tourists, bathrooms, water fountains, accommodations for rest, food court and shops.

  • Must do if you visiting Rio. Going all the way to the top in cable cars gives some fantastic views of the city. It is very popular and obviously gets very crowded. It can eat up more than half of your day so make sure you plan ahead. The best time is to go late afternoon so you catch the sunset and view of the city and mountains in lights. Christ the redeemer also shines beautifully at night with a bright light on the statue. There is parking nearby but it is expensive. If you can use public transport, do it. Take a good camera because there will be lots to shoot!
  • I've been to the summit 3 times. First time I went up the shortest mountain by foot (which I recommend btw) and then took the cable car to reach the peak of the Sugarloaf. On the way to the first mountain I met many of these cute, little monkeys with white hair on their head. So adorable :). The view from the Sugarloaf will not disappoint you.
  • Views were great, lines and tons of people were not.. sometimes you have to wait hours but its a must. Id hike it if i were you. More memorable. Take the cable cars down. People are rude but worth it. Trash everywhere, i wish people were more educated.
  • Amazing!! A must visit. Don't hesitate to pay for the ticket to go up here, probably one of the best views you could have of Rio. You could sit for a drink, too. There are, also, some shops here.
  • Must visit place in Rio. The view from the top of the mountain is unbelievable. Helicopter rides available to show the top view of Rio city. Please make sure there is no fog.much before visiting here. Very well maintained tourist location. Catch a view of plane take off and landing near the beachside from the top. Unforgettable place. Happy holidays in Rio
