Ride or walk to the city’s iconic Sugarloaf Mountain, named in the 16th century after the conical shape of a concentrated loaf of sugar, which it strongly resembles. The mountain is located at the mouth of Guanabara Bay, on a peninsula sticking out into the Atlantic Ocean. Towering 396 m (1,299 ft) above the bay, the mountain is one of several monolithic granite and quartz formations rising from the water’s edge. To reach the summit, you can take one of two glass-walled cable cars, which operate continuously throughout the day. These bubble-shaped cars, which can hold up to 65 people each and run along a 1,400-meter (4,593 ft) scenic route, offer passengers 360-degree views of the surrounding city. • Go to sugarloaf mountain! It is beautiful. We took the tram which held 65 people. It was pretty full but it was worth it when you reach the top.

  • Our trip to Sugarloaf Mountain was a blast! We got to the Complex early, hoping to beat the crowd, only to find that others had the same thought. The staff checked IDs and vaccine cards before letting people in. Once in the cable cars, the views were spectacular. This turned out to be a two part trip. The first leg of the journey took us to Urca Morro. There were shops, places to eat, and lookout points for photos or just sitting and enjoying the views. The second leg of the journey took you to Sugarloaf Mountain. The higher viewpoint offered scenic, panoramic vistas of the city, the famous beaches of Ipanema and Copacabana, and the surrounding hills. There were also great seating places, places to eat and shop! There is also a small museum that celebrates the construction of this cable care system. A sidebar note, if you enjoy small quiet beaches, then check out Praia Vermelho and Praia Urca. They are both within walking distance of the Complex!
  • Amazing views of Rio and easily accessible by the cable car. Would highly recommend and gives a great view of the vistas of Rio.
  • It’s a must attraction if you’re visiting Río de Janeiro. The cable car is a neat way to reach the top and the views of the city are amazing. You get a 360 view of Rio. Plenty of places to take great pictures. There are restaurants and pubs up top in case you want to get a bite or drink while you’re up there. The cost to go up was $120 reales, worth every penny. I recommend going around 18hrs so you can see the sunset from the peak of the Sugarloaf.
  • An amazing and must do activity while in Rio. I took the cable cars up both mountains, which is a bit expensive but half off if your a student. Amazing 360 views of the city, one of the best city views I've seen.
  • This is a must see in Rio with beautiful views. I would recommend hiking up to Morro da Urca and catching the second cable car from there. It’s a steep hike but very pretty and there are monkeys.
