Rodrigo de Freitas Lake, Rio de Janeiro

4.6
#2 of 12 in Nature in Rio de Janeiro
Walk, skate, jog, or cycle the pathway encircling Rodrigo de Freitas Lake, which features numerous convenient spots from which you can photograph the Tijuca Forest and Corcovado Mountain. Along the way, grab a light snack and a refreshing drink from one of many kiosks dotting the 8-km (5 mi) track. You can row, sail, or water ski on the lake, but if your prefer to just bob on the water and admire the sights, rent a small paddle boat from one of several stands located on the eastern side of the lagoon. Visit the area in the evening to enjoy live music, mingle with the locals, and watch the sunset with a cold drink in hand. A visit to Rodrigo de Freitas Lake represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Rio de Janeiro trip planner to plot your vacation.

  • Great for sports, like go for a run in the morning or late in the afternoon and then take a coconut water when finished. Visual sensational!

  • Beautiful lagoon, a beautiful place to walk, walk with friends, family and why not alone? Relax, reflect a bit about life. With various attractions, mainly focused on physical activity, enchanted by the place.

  • It's a beautiful setting for a run, bike, hike, skate or walk. There are plenty of restaurants and bars along the way. There is even an epic movie theater and food court! Sunsets and sunrises are amazing! Oh and you even have a view of Christ the Redeemer!
  • Lagoa de Freitas bike path is a must. Bike rentals by the hour are available. It takes 45 minutes to complete the loop around the lake. The scenery is beautiful and there's birds everywhere. You can also walk or jog but I really recommend renting a bike.
  • I visited on a Monday and on a cloudy day. There was almost no one, complete quiet, even had a girl studyng in front of lagoon. Ideal place for moments of reflection. Very beautiful landscape.
  • Nice place to walk it takes 1:40 mins to walk around .... But the traffic is loud and noisy which makes it tiring ....
  • A quiet place, in the middle of a busy Rio.

Where to stay in Rio de Janeiro

Accommodations in Rio de Janeiro cover as diverse a spectrum as the city itself. At the top end, you can find plenty of luxury hotels along the beaches of Zona Sul, the city's southern zone, which includes the renowned Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. For something to suit a budget, but with good beach access, look around the less crowded neighborhoods of Catele and Flamengo. If you want to stay as centrally as possible, without feeling like you're in a business district, look for lodgings in the colorful, bohemian neighborhood of Santa Teresa.
