Rodrigo de Freitas Lake, Rio de Janeiro

4.6
Walk, skate, jog, or cycle the pathway encircling Rodrigo de Freitas Lake, which features numerous convenient spots from which you can photograph the Tijuca Forest and Corcovado Mountain. Along the way, grab a light snack and a refreshing drink from one of many kiosks dotting the 8-km (5 mi) track. You can row, sail, or water ski on the lake, but if your prefer to just bob on the water and admire the sights, rent a small paddle boat from one of several stands located on the eastern side of the lagoon. Visit the area in the evening to enjoy live music, mingle with the locals, and watch the sunset with a cold drink in hand. A visit to Rodrigo de Freitas Lake represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Rio de Janeiro trip planner to plot your vacation.

  • As everything here in Rio De Janeiro, don't walk like a Teletubbie exposing your camera or cellphone around the lagoon to don't become another victim of robbery. The lagoon is beautiful but it is not ...  more »
  • There in the pond is well diversified for chores. You can run, walk, ride a bike, rollerblade, skateboard and enjoy the scenery.

  • Fantastic views of the sunset and free leisure area that makes many cities jealous. Noble junction with the mountain as the inspiration for the line of spiritual evolution.

  • This body of water has been there for as long as I can remember. Free entrance but the service isn't great. In all seriousness, it is a huge lake in the middle of Rio, it is worth visiting. Go there for a walk or bicycle ride and the drink coconut water while people pass by. On Sundays it is a popular picnic location with a lot of families and kids birthdays.
  • It's a beautiful setting for a run, bike, hike, skate or walk. There are plenty of restaurants and bars along the way. There is even an epic movie theater and food court! Sunsets and sunrises are amazing! Oh and you even have a view of Christ the Redeemer!
  • Wonderfull place, nice to sunrise and sunset mainly.
  • Lagoa de Freitas bike path is a must. Bike rentals by the hour are available. It takes 45 minutes to complete the loop around the lake. The scenery is beautiful and there's birds everywhere. You can also walk or jog but I really recommend renting a bike.
  • I visited on a Monday and on a cloudy day. There was almost no one, complete quiet, even had a girl studyng in front of lagoon. Ideal place for moments of reflection. Very beautiful landscape.
