Rio Zoo, Rio de Janeiro

(1.1/5 based on 650 reviews on the web)
The Rio Zoo has housed animals since the 1800s, when it was a major attraction for the city. Nowadays, you can still see the proud pachyderm stuffing its mouth with hay and the statuesque giraffe winking at you with a big brown eye. Apart from the standard fare of African species, such as the lion and ape, you'll see native mammals and birds. For example, the sloth drapes itself in the branches for a long nap, while the macaws chatter in the distance. Take the kids to the petting zoo to feed farm animals, or watch the crocs pop out of the water during feeding time. Avoid the restaurants inside the park to save some cash; instead, opt for a picnic on one of the lawns. • The Rio Zoo is a super nice place and great for hanging out with the kids. The Rio Zoo was in complete state of disrepair by the State Government of Rio de Janeiro and has been recovered by the company that took over the administration of the same. When visiting the zoo you realize significant advances (when compared to the previous state of abandonment) but still knows a great route to go until it is in full operation. Today we can consider that he has about 50% of recovery. Worth the visit but the expectation can be frustrated if you imagine a full recovery. A few animals but the ones on display seem to be being well taken care of. The experience in the nursery of birds (enter the nursery-free) and the little farm (pay activity) are good attractions for the little ones. That worked on local restaurant is closed. At the moment there's no giraffes on display.

  • I visited the Zoo three years ago, two years ago and today. I must say that is dramatically improved. Concrete casting that characterizes it is a constant but was treated better than the Green and animals suffer less than in the past, apparently. The animal species are varied and abound especially birds and monkeys. There is an area with bouncy castle for the kids and two bars in the area that separates the monkeys by ostriches. No animal seemed to suffer because the cages were full of water and plants. For kids is a fun and fascinating, beyond our belief. At the exit there were taxis and did not have to wait in the middle of the Park, warm. For those who love the zoo can be a cute outing, not least for the Green!

  • We went back to the Zoo with my daughters after the reopening. Saw positives in place as the opening of the cage of the visitor display racks have more contact, but still had several empty animal cages as the monkeys. I didn't see zebras and the lion and Tiger were sleeping. Weak point: place was very hot and had no sales of water stations at the park that has become a mental thing stop to enjoy the animals due to heat. Food Court with few food options. Input can be paid with credit card. Place is nice, need more careful, but let's count on the coming months. Parking in the Park.
