Where to stay in Rio de Janeiro

Accommodations in Rio de Janeiro cover as diverse a spectrum as the city itself. At the top end, you can find plenty of luxury hotels along the beaches of Zona Sul, the city's southern zone, which includes the renowned Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. For something to suit a budget, but with good beach access, look around the less crowded neighborhoods of Catele and Flamengo. If you want to stay as centrally as possible, without feeling like you're in a business district, look for lodgings in the colorful, bohemian neighborhood of Santa Teresa.

  • Given that me and my 2 year old son were in downtown, we decided to visit this museum. If you (or your children) like firefighting this is a good place to go. Full of history, they have ancient firefig...  more »
  • Barred by be with regular clothes, heat. Wasn't working, not military, that is the most reactionary institution in the country. We're in the 21st century, if you want to walk around naked is problem wrong. Refuse me to enter this place of fascists.

  • Interesting building and interactive art. Relaxed ambiance. On street level there is a shop with Very nice people and original local stuff for sale. Worth going if you want to take home something diferent.
  • nice view from the last floor where the Restaurante Mauá is located - there is a terrace (no need to pay to go upstairs)
  • This museum was so disappointing - they have two buildings but one is empty and the other one only had a few small exhibitions. Plus no-one explained that half the museum is empty and they made it incredibly confusing. I went round in circles several times before anyone told me the new building was empty.
  • Some cool expositions, if you don't like painting, sculptures and photography don't go, there is nothing else there. The organization is a little bit chaotic but still kind of interesting.
  • It's right across the Museum of Tomorrow. So, if you like museums, you can do those two together. On a hot day you can visit the cafe inside.
