Ponte Rio-Niteroi, Rio de Janeiro

4.0
At the time of its construction, Ponte Rio-Niteroi was the second longest bridge in the world, and, although it has since slipped down in the rankings, it is no less impressive a structure today. 13.29 km (8.25 mi) long and reaching a height of 72 m (236 ft), the bridge offers an expansive cityscape of Rio de Janeiro, including the downtown skyline and Sugarloaf Mountain. To get a sense of the scale of the bridge, take the ferry and view it from the water. To visit Ponte Rio-Niteroi on your trip to Rio de Janeiro, use our Rio de Janeiro trip itinerary planning tool .

  • 13 km over water. An amazing piece of engineering. Connects the cities of Rio de Janeiro and Niterói. Recommend a ticket for her in the evening and at night. Impressive. Watch out for the traffic. Avoid Fridays.

  • Are 13 km bridge. Running away from the rush hours the crossing is quiet. On sunny days the sea turns blue and the contrast is very beautiful. Niterói-RIo towards the sunset is beautiful in the summer. I spent unmissable, but must be associated with the other attractions.

  • The best way to see the bridge is taking the Rio-Niterói ferry, you can track all your extension during the path//pretty cool if it is near the sunset ... yields great photos. If you have a beautiful sight of the terrace of the Museum M.A. R

  • Beautiful bridge! Giving it five stars since I haven't fell from it yet nor any of my friends that constantly use it. 5/5 Would drive through it again.
  • Beautiful bridge spanning the river between Rio de Janeiro and the town of Niterói. Affords beautiful views of Rio especially at sunset.
  • The ride thorough the bridge was one hell of an experience.

Where to stay in Rio de Janeiro

Accommodations in Rio de Janeiro cover as diverse a spectrum as the city itself. At the top end, you can find plenty of luxury hotels along the beaches of Zona Sul, the city's southern zone, which includes the renowned Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. For something to suit a budget, but with good beach access, look around the less crowded neighborhoods of Catele and Flamengo. If you want to stay as centrally as possible, without feeling like you're in a business district, look for lodgings in the colorful, bohemian neighborhood of Santa Teresa.
