Ponte Rio-Niteroi, Rio de Janeiro

4.0
At the time of its construction, Ponte Rio-Niteroi was the second longest bridge in the world, and, although it has since slipped down in the rankings, it is no less impressive a structure today. 13.29 km (8.25 mi) long and reaching a height of 72 m (236 ft), the bridge offers an expansive cityscape of Rio de Janeiro, including the downtown skyline and Sugarloaf Mountain. To get a sense of the scale of the bridge, take the ferry and view it from the water. To visit Ponte Rio-Niteroi on your trip to Rio de Janeiro, use our Rio de Janeiro trip itinerary planning tool .

  • Ferry to Niterói is plain, on the site of little interesting attractions, the only thing worth recommending is the fish market.

  • The President Costa e Silva bridge or as is popularly known "Ponte Rio-Niterói" is not a tourist spot and a place of passage that connects the cities of Rio de Janeiro and Niterói. Keeps bottled during the rush hours and the eve of public holidays.

  • An imposing work opened in 1974 by the military regime, which preserves a fundamental importance to the link between Rio de Janeiro and the cities to the North of the State. length of approximately 17 Km has a heavy flow of cars daily. normally no traffic is crossing time of 13 minutes which is aggravated in peak periods. toll charged only in the sense of Niterói, a maximum speed of 80 Km with radar turned on. a postcard of the city!

  • Beautiful bridge! Giving it five stars since I haven't fell from it yet nor any of my friends that constantly use it. 5/5 Would drive through it again.
  • Beautiful bridge spanning the river between Rio de Janeiro and the town of Niterói. Affords beautiful views of Rio especially at sunset.

Where to stay in Rio de Janeiro

Accommodations in Rio de Janeiro cover as diverse a spectrum as the city itself. At the top end, you can find plenty of luxury hotels along the beaches of Zona Sul, the city's southern zone, which includes the renowned Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. For something to suit a budget, but with good beach access, look around the less crowded neighborhoods of Catele and Flamengo. If you want to stay as centrally as possible, without feeling like you're in a business district, look for lodgings in the colorful, bohemian neighborhood of Santa Teresa.
