Parque Lage, Rio de Janeiro
(4.6/5 based on 3,800+ reviews on the web)
Get away from tourists and enjoy old-style colonial Brazil at Parque Lage, a public park at the foot of the Corcovado Mountain. Spanning 52 hectares (128.4 acres), the park was designed in 1840 by an English landscaper. Take one of the many walking trails in the subtropical forest with imperial palm trees, and enjoy spotting monkeys and toucans resting in the treetops. A stately colonial-style building with a tranquil courtyard pool dominates the park: once an old sugar mill, the structure now houses an art school. Visit caves, little ponds, and an artificial island, and have a picnic in the quiet, exotic setting. Check out the art or a music performance, or savor a coffee and snack inside the mansion. Plan your visit to Parque Lage and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Rio de Janeiro travel itinerary planner.

  • Good for friends, family with children and groups interested in culture and art. Within the park there is an art school which offers several courses. A view of Christ from a different angle and a trail that goes out in the Tijuca forest.

  • This place is the Parque Lage is connected with the memory of the city. The eclectic character of its architecture ally to the rich lifestyle of the ones who lived there reflects the spirit of a epoch, where the social life of the city happen in places like the Palacete dos Lage lounges. Since that period is still possible to find in the Parque Lage some ruins of the antique sugar mill that existed there. This values justified the tipping of the green zones and the architecture constructions besides it were declared by the IPHAN as a landscape, environment and cultural patrimony in 1967
  • We were very positively surprised about this magical parque. Imho the best place to start your walk/climb up to Christ the Redeemer. But don't forget to buy your tickets in advance. It's not possible to buy them at the entrance.
  • Lovely place to walk around !! Amazing view to Christ !! Rest and read a book !!! Having a coffee or lunch would be a plus !!! They should charge 5 reais at least !!! To help the maintenance ,,,,, because really need some work !!! At put some NO SMOKE SIGNS INSIDE !!! Amazing how people can be selfish smoking in such a blessed nature spot !!!
  • The park itself is already great (see for yourself on the pictures). But do you like hiking? If so, you MUST get the trail up to the Christ the redeemer statue. It starts on the back of the park, reasonably steep, taking a little bit more than 1h to the top, but totally worth it! (Not recommend for sedentary/light hikers, I think)
  • Beautiful. During the Olympics, this was the site of the British House. From the courtyard, you can see the Christ the Redeemer statue. Lovely place to visit and also catch the sight of cute monkeys in the trees.
