Parque Lage, Rio de Janeiro

Get away from tourists and enjoy old-style colonial Brazil at Parque Lage, a public park at the foot of the Corcovado Mountain. Spanning 52 hectares (128.4 acres), the park was designed in 1840 by an English landscaper. Take one of the many walking trails in the subtropical forest with imperial palm trees, and enjoy spotting monkeys and toucans resting in the treetops. A stately colonial-style building with a tranquil courtyard pool dominates the park: once an old sugar mill, the structure now houses an art school. Visit caves, little ponds, and an artificial island, and have a picnic in the quiet, exotic setting. Check out the art or a music performance, or savor a coffee and snack inside the mansion. • Is it so hard to keep a public space in the River, in which the public can attend so pleasant?

  • I was in the park for a photo shoot and I took to lunch at your restaurant, very good quality.

  • Lage Park is well located in the Botanic Gardens and has a beautiful green area. Admission is free and there is possible to make tracks. The place has an artificial Grotto and a small aquarium with freshwater species. Inside the House there is a bistro and a swimming pool overlooking the Christ, who is the scene of many pictures. Worth knowing!

  • What a beautiful place! Amazing architecture with a very green tropical forest around it. There is also a nice cafe serving food and drinks. On a clear day you can see the Christ from there. But even if you can't see it, the visit still worth it. Highly recommend.
  • Really cool park with a lot to see! It's quite different to a normal park you might expect to find as it's completely filled with trees and flowers! What I mean by that is there aren't too many places to just sit on the grass and 'people watch' for example. Some great things to see here like the mansion (art workshop) and the mini aquarium.
  • Very busy and was told I couldn't take a photo unless I used a mobile phone. No explanation. Not impressed. Very pretty though but hoaching with tourists
  • This was a very pleasant surprise. The caves and bridges to the west of the park were really fun, the main area where the cafe is was crowded, but the rest of the park wasn't. Try to climb the old tower and go around that area, really cool.
  • Stunning building with a gorgeous park around. Nice cafe i the building where you can relax and enjoy the view. Must see in Rio de Janeiro 😊

Where to stay in Rio de Janeiro

Accommodations in Rio de Janeiro cover as diverse a spectrum as the city itself. At the top end, you can find plenty of luxury hotels along the beaches of Zona Sul, the city's southern zone, which includes the renowned Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. For something to suit a budget, but with good beach access, look around the less crowded neighborhoods of Catele and Flamengo. If you want to stay as centrally as possible, without feeling like you're in a business district, look for lodgings in the colorful, bohemian neighborhood of Santa Teresa.
