Parque Lage, Rio de Janeiro

4.5
#1 of 45 in Historic Sites in Rio de Janeiro
Historic Site Nature / Park
Get away from tourists and enjoy old-style colonial Brazil at Parque Lage, a public park at the foot of the Corcovado Mountain. Spanning 52 hectares (128.4 acres), the park was designed in 1840 by an English landscaper. Take one of the many walking trails in the subtropical forest with imperial palm trees, and enjoy spotting monkeys and toucans resting in the treetops. A stately colonial-style building with a tranquil courtyard pool dominates the park: once an old sugar mill, the structure now houses an art school. Visit caves, little ponds, and an artificial island, and have a picnic in the quiet, exotic setting. Check out the art or a music performance, or savor a coffee and snack inside the mansion. • Although there are many tourists, worth checking out the Park, even if it's just to take a photo. Everybody respects "the queue" to take the famous picture "looking the view.". I didn't eat or drink on the spot, because we were in a hurry. But when you get close, to give that peek at the tables, soon I was served by a waiter. The Park is huge and there are always relatives and friends picnicking on the outside.

  • We love the Park, has a confectionary in a very nice part for a drink. Great infrastructure, transports you to another era. Without a doubt, they have to go visit him. Is open to 17 pm.

  • Great place for a picnic outside. Also it has a breakfast place at an old palace home for some rich/prestigious people in the past. Fancy old architecture surrounded by nature.
  • Beautiful house with internal patio. Brazilians are very proud that snoop dogg shot one of his videos here
  • Both the food and service were bad at the restaurant. The park is great, though, so maybe just drinks at the restaurant if necessary.
  • Great place to go hiking at. Real calm area.
  • Awesome park with fascinating history and well kept fauna. Very friendly staff. Awesome views of Christ De Redeemer. Take a walk around it and decide if you want to take the 2-3 hour trail up to Christo. I strongly recommend doing so 😊

Where to stay in Rio de Janeiro

Accommodations in Rio de Janeiro cover as diverse a spectrum as the city itself. At the top end, you can find plenty of luxury hotels along the beaches of Zona Sul, the city's southern zone, which includes the renowned Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. For something to suit a budget, but with good beach access, look around the less crowded neighborhoods of Catele and Flamengo. If you want to stay as centrally as possible, without feeling like you're in a business district, look for lodgings in the colorful, bohemian neighborhood of Santa Teresa.
