Paqueta Island Beach, Rio de Janeiro

4.0
#6 of 12 in Nature in Rio de Janeiro
This beautifully landscaped island will charm you, not for any one reason, but rather with its amalgam of gentle pace, cobblestone streets, tree-lined beaches, graceful old summer homes, and excellent views of Guanabara Bay. There are no cars on Paqueta Island Beach, and you will appreciate the peace and quiet after the chaos of Rio. To get around you can either walk, rent a bicycle, or take a horse-drawn carriage, stopping to explore small, deserted coves, stunning colonial architecture, and lush parks that you pass. Ten of the island’s trees are under official protection, with the most famous being “Maria Gorda"--Fat Maria--, an African baobab, which islanders kiss for luck. With our world travel planner, Rio de Janeiro attractions like Paqueta Island Beach can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • Great place to walk two or with family and friends. A place where there's no traffic, only bicycles. Ida occurs through bars or catamarans, leaving in various times of 15 Square in the city centre. The average round trip time is 1 hour. Arriving on the island, the tourist will find a choice of beaches, bike rentals, bars and restaurants, as well as places to meet. Worth checking out, because you will not regret it.

  • Island is almost end of Guanabara Bay noi, you take the boat in the cais da 15 Square, takes about 30/40 min w/her come. Is p/pass the day, rent a bike and go around on the island, the beach w/enjoy and savor seafood restaurant ...

  • How simple it is to be happy. The viewpoints are great options for photo, the beaches are pretty nice (a shame being bathed by the Guanabara Bay). Is a small island, but very nice. A law prohibited the movement of carriages and wagons, now are electric bicycles and golf carts that make the tour of the island. I found the price of the golf cart absurd! They charged me $100 for a full tour on the island. If you get an ATV, will pay about $20 for 30mins. Worth a lot more. You can even take a little more time pedaling, but will be much better. Having seafood as featured, restaurants have reasonable prices. I think you could do better prices.

  • Good place to ride a bike - round trip around the small island

  • It is worth visiting. Mandatory. Bucolic location, relaxing, cheap. It's not a luxurious trip, far from it. Simple, and so wonderful. I recommend spending a day here. The city should pay more attention, in particular to the Park, abandoned, however clean. Visit, you won't be sorry. A nice day, for those who like the simplicity.

  • Very beautiful! Be sure to know, romantic and unforgettable ride. Great for shooting landscapes, buggies or ride bicycle rental, to walk quite across the island, be sure to visit the stone, is the magic of an ancient legend. Many shops scattered across the island, varieties of souvenirs to buy, great options for drinks and snacks, relaxed atmosphere. Downside unfortunately is to the population of all waters of Guanabara Bay.

  • The time that remained on the island was great, but the return home, it wasn't that good. In a holiday where the number of visitors to the island is very expressive, ferries (the only means of transportation available) with intervals of 1 hour and a half. You can't. Result, a VAT hiperlotada. Note: you do not need to be a genius to realize that the number of people has exceeded the permitted capacity/secure. That is a mode of transportation, expensive, time-consuming, and the worst. Really unfortunate ... The island, it doesn't change a lot. Keeps your traditional culture. A good place to spend the day to be alone to unwind or with the family for example. Great for children. Every time I step out there, I always carry some great memories.

Where to stay in Rio de Janeiro

Accommodations in Rio de Janeiro cover as diverse a spectrum as the city itself. At the top end, you can find plenty of luxury hotels along the beaches of Zona Sul, the city's southern zone, which includes the renowned Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. For something to suit a budget, but with good beach access, look around the less crowded neighborhoods of Catele and Flamengo. If you want to stay as centrally as possible, without feeling like you're in a business district, look for lodgings in the colorful, bohemian neighborhood of Santa Teresa.
