Paqueta Island Beach, Rio de Janeiro

3.4
#7 of 11 in Nature in Rio de Janeiro
This beautifully landscaped island will charm you, not for any one reason, but rather with its amalgam of gentle pace, cobblestone streets, tree-lined beaches, graceful old summer homes, and excellent views of Guanabara Bay. There are no cars on Paqueta Island Beach, and you will appreciate the peace and quiet after the chaos of Rio. To get around you can either walk, rent a bicycle, or take a horse-drawn carriage, stopping to explore small, deserted coves, stunning colonial architecture, and lush parks that you pass. Ten of the island’s trees are under official protection, with the most famous being “Maria Gorda"--Fat Maria--, an African baobab, which islanders kiss for luck. With our world travel planner, Rio de Janeiro attractions like Paqueta Island Beach can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • The island is a must-see attraction for those visiting the RJ, to get there, we can use the ferries or hydrofoils leaving the das Barcas S/A station located in the praça XV. Consult timetables. The crossing is pretty cool, because through it the Guanabara Bay can be contemplated, in addition to other attractions like the Fiscal Island and the bridge Rio Niteroi. To take advantage of all that offer good Paquetá is spend a weekend. There are good inns to low cost.

  • My passion for island dates from my childhood, where I loved going with people who came out to spend a few days at my parents ' House. An exciting ferry crossing, you catch the praça XV. The beaches are cleaner and are quiet for a picnic with friends and family. Worth a walk to the beach of Brunette, inspired by the novel by José de Alencar.

  • Paquetá island is in the Bay of Guanabara. Has beautiful views ... passrios interesting ... good restaurants and at low cost. The access is done in boats and it's good to see timetables on the website as they are not many day trips. Island of many stories and romance. There are reasonable hotels if you want to spend the night there. But it's a tour that you can go back and forth on the same day.

Where to stay in Rio de Janeiro

Accommodations in Rio de Janeiro cover as diverse a spectrum as the city itself. At the top end, you can find plenty of luxury hotels along the beaches of Zona Sul, the city's southern zone, which includes the renowned Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. For something to suit a budget, but with good beach access, look around the less crowded neighborhoods of Catele and Flamengo. If you want to stay as centrally as possible, without feeling like you're in a business district, look for lodgings in the colorful, bohemian neighborhood of Santa Teresa.
