Paqueta Island Beach, Rio de Janeiro

4.0
#7 of 12 in Nature in Rio de Janeiro
This beautifully landscaped island will charm you, not for any one reason, but rather with its amalgam of gentle pace, cobblestone streets, tree-lined beaches, graceful old summer homes, and excellent views of Guanabara Bay. There are no cars on Paqueta Island Beach, and you will appreciate the peace and quiet after the chaos of Rio. To get around you can either walk, rent a bicycle, or take a horse-drawn carriage, stopping to explore small, deserted coves, stunning colonial architecture, and lush parks that you pass. Ten of the island’s trees are under official protection, with the most famous being “Maria Gorda"--Fat Maria--, an African baobab, which islanders kiss for luck. With our world travel planner, Rio de Janeiro attractions like Paqueta Island Beach can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • To reach this island we took the boat used by the inhabitants in their daily lives, before arriving at the port lies a park that that day had an antiques fair (very interesting!), considered that would have been a nice tour (since among other things are) passes under the very long bridge of 15 kms, facing the sea), but many children who were crying, had embarked with us how 300 super young people bustling with instruments and singing a loud voice (eve of Carnival), had I think that they should respect the travel of others, all of my group wanted to get the most possible fast... and was well down! linda Island, picturesque landscape, has several restaurants (we opted in Rio after some bad times for not understanding the waiter that we offered to seek places where they sell by kilos, because there you can see that we serve), there is one which is also a hotel and v food per kilo Ende, has spacious lounge, is suitable for large groups. On the island you can ride in carts that do not use fuel or also on bikes. There is a large rock, where you have that is filmed part of a famous telenovela "la morenita" or something like this I think they said, also can show the presence of a cemetery of birds (!) or visit your park with attractive viewpoints, which has games for children. This island we loved, we found a great idea to visit it, cute place for families

  • If you can go on a weekday, you will find all the tranquility of a place that seems to have stopped in time.

  • It was a nice surprise! Has a distinct charm of the rest of the river. A different life. I think it's worth the trip!

  • It is worth visiting. Mandatory. Bucolic location, relaxing, cheap. It's not a luxurious trip, far from it. Simple, and so wonderful. I recommend spending a day here. The city should pay more attention, in particular to the Park, abandoned, however clean. Visit, you won't be sorry. A nice day, for those who like the simplicity.

  • Very beautiful! Be sure to know, romantic and unforgettable ride. Great for shooting landscapes, buggies or ride bicycle rental, to walk quite across the island, be sure to visit the stone, is the magic of an ancient legend. Many shops scattered across the island, varieties of souvenirs to buy, great options for drinks and snacks, relaxed atmosphere. Downside unfortunately is to the population of all waters of Guanabara Bay.

  • The time that remained on the island was great, but the return home, it wasn't that good. In a holiday where the number of visitors to the island is very expressive, ferries (the only means of transportation available) with intervals of 1 hour and a half. You can't. Result, a VAT hiperlotada. Note: you do not need to be a genius to realize that the number of people has exceeded the permitted capacity/secure. That is a mode of transportation, expensive, time-consuming, and the worst. Really unfortunate ... The island, it doesn't change a lot. Keeps your traditional culture. A good place to spend the day to be alone to unwind or with the family for example. Great for children. Every time I step out there, I always carry some great memories.
