  • I met the Açude Museum, located in the Alto da Boa Vista, Rio de Janeiro and I was surprised with what I found on the site. I arrived at 2:00 pm, and the temperature was very nice, perfect for a stroll outdoors in the middle of very green! You can reach the Museum by car or bus, but the ideal is to go by car, because otherwise you will have to take a walk of about 20 minutes each on a route a little steep. The Museum has this name because it is located relatively close to a Pond at the parque da Floresta da Tijuca. This area of the forest has a large number of houses and mansions that are dated from the first half of the 20 century. The Museum has a total area of 150,000 square meters of greenery, and many works of art in their beautiful gardens very well looked after. In the gardens there are several banks decorated with Portuguese tiles, and of course the old house owned by Castro Maya colonial style. The house belonged to a Rico businessman, and art collector, called Raymundo Ottoni de Castro Maya, who left the House of Weir, as was known, to house their works of art. The House is very beautiful and at the same time of simple lines, has a beautiful central courtyard with a slight Roman inspiration, which is easily noticeable. The place, as I said above, presents a lot of decorating with Portuguese tiles, walls, tiles, benches, and all this is because Castro Maya being an admirer of these parts. The mansion still preserves several securities dating back some room in the old House. Castro Maya received often your friends in residence of dam for dinners and parties that became famous between 1930 and 1940, as the famous new year's Eve costume party from 1937, whose theme was the Circus, and the no less famous dinner where he toasted his guests with a presentation of the Russian Dancer Serves Lifar. The receptions were more than simple social events, whose sophisticated menus were chosen by the Castro Maya who oversaw personally the kitchen. The elegance of the dining room can be seen on the walls that were decorated with Portuguese tiles, in French, and crystals on silver Indian company. The kitchen and pantry were scenes of spectacular receptions offered by Castro Maya. The jars guaranteed fresh and pure water and a variety of containers for food and food preparation, added to the pans, sinks, scales and stove, allowed the realization of wonderful menus. In the photos, are the toilet and the filter, the fireplace, the antique chairs the mansion on the walls of the second floor of the House, and the Windows with frames, the living room with walls lined with Portuguese tiles. Already on the outside of the House, there are several works of art displayed throughout the gardens, making an invite the visitor to walk through the gardens and small trails inside the Museum. According to a vigilante, who wants to can schedule in advance a picnic spot, in addition of course, other events! The Museum has served as a location for recording several novels. Schedules Daily, except Tuesdays, from 11:00 to 5:00 pm. Free admission on Thursdays. Closes on 1st Jan, Carnival, and 25 10 31 10. Free parking in the museum itself. Ticket R $2.00 Gratuity under 12 years, people over 65 years old, school groups, teachers and tour guides, members of ICOM and the Association of friends of the Museum.

  • THE MUSEUM IS VERY INTERESTING!! In the same place you can admire the beauties of the Tijuca forest, the story of old Rio (customs, utensils and furniture) and works of art exposed outdoors. Highlighting the walkway suspended high in the treetops. Symbolic value of ticket. IS VERY WORTHWHILE.

  • I loved the space. The trails are great. The forest is beautiful. I didn't see a place to buy water. I spent a morning there and I was the only visitor. I think I lack. Can be this bad moment that Rio is living that prevents people who visit the Museum.

Where to stay in Rio de Janeiro

Accommodations in Rio de Janeiro cover as diverse a spectrum as the city itself. At the top end, you can find plenty of luxury hotels along the beaches of Zona Sul, the city's southern zone, which includes the renowned Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. For something to suit a budget, but with good beach access, look around the less crowded neighborhoods of Catele and Flamengo. If you want to stay as centrally as possible, without feeling like you're in a business district, look for lodgings in the colorful, bohemian neighborhood of Santa Teresa.
