  • Track considered easy access, without technical difficulties, but the day was cloudy! To get to the beginning of the trail just catch a kombi in morro do Vidigal and ask to get off at the Olympic village.

  • Hiking on Rio and ecotourism specialist, I highly recommend the Easter guide (France - Rio.com). During my visit to Rio, I have done several hikes in Rio, I was delighted. Service for private, which makes very nice hike, far from mass tourism.

  • The view from up there is amazing - quite similar from the one you get going up the Christ, but for free! However it is quite a hike! I went there in dec. 2014 and it was so hot that some of the peopl...  more »

  • Motorcycle taxi, icebar (i dun remember the specific name), stiff hill and magnificent view, everything was unique and memorable. I still have a vivid feeling about this mountain. All the people i met up were very friendly also. One thing i wanna tell travelers is to be careful motorcycle riding places.
  • O wasn't at the hill, i was in Ipanema and was watching morro dois irmãos and would like to share my pic of this view of the mountain.
  • What a wonderful sight over the Corcovado, the Lagoa and Ipanema
  • Beautiful view. Short and easy hike. If you take a moto taxi to the top of the favela, it can be done in 30'.
  • This quintessential hike in Zona Sul is a moderate hike that offers everything from favelas to beautiful landscape views, not to mention a beautiful deck with cold drinks overlooking the city of Rio when the hike is finished. The Dois Irmãos climb adventure starts at the base of Vidigal, a favela located 10 minutes from Ipanema on the ocean. From the base of Vidigal, you take a convy (a VW bus) or motorcycle taxi to the trailhead located in "Alto Vidiga," which means "the top of Vidigal." I recommend the moto táxi! Once on foot, you will make your way to the trailhead after a short walk through a residential area of the favela. The Dois Irmãos Hike is an all uphill affair. The trail slides past the biggest favela in Rio, Rocinha, offering spectacular views of both the favela and their wealthier neighbors. After 45 minutes to an hour, you arrive to the summit with breathtaking views of the city and surrounding region. You descend the same trail you went up. When you return to the trailhead and Alto Vidigal, don't miss a chance to enjoy cold refreshments from deck at Bar de Lage with panoramic views Of Ipanema and Zona Sul. Hike: Moderate Hiking Time: 1.5 hours round trip Tour Time: 2.5 - 4 hours (dependant on our stop to the panoramic deck)

Where to stay in Rio de Janeiro

Accommodations in Rio de Janeiro cover as diverse a spectrum as the city itself. At the top end, you can find plenty of luxury hotels along the beaches of Zona Sul, the city's southern zone, which includes the renowned Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. For something to suit a budget, but with good beach access, look around the less crowded neighborhoods of Catele and Flamengo. If you want to stay as centrally as possible, without feeling like you're in a business district, look for lodgings in the colorful, bohemian neighborhood of Santa Teresa.
